Place to find Soft A/C

I worked for a soft A/C station from '90-'94 and I have to say most stations that carried the format as it was have moved away from it. The best place to find the '90's era soft A/C format would be Sirius/XM Love. They play alot of soft A/C that I haven't heard in quite awhile.

Sirius XM Love is an ok start. But it's all love songs, so you won't hear great tunes like Gordon Lightfoot's "Carefree Highway" which is Soft AC but is not a love song.

And no Bruce Hornsby and the Range on Sirius/XM Love, either. There is some of his music that would definitely fit into their format.

Most stations today still offer soft AC, but of course, it's not the same soft AC that was popular back in the early to late 80's, which began as a cross between the easy listening and adult contemporary formats. Unfortunately, all the core easy listening artists (Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow, et al) have been dropped from today's soft AC stations while other music not previously heard on the format has been added to the mix. I like to refer to the current soft AC version as "watered down adult contemporary". As far as stations today offering programming similar to the original format...Tampa's WDUV "The Dove" is about as close as you can get, but they do incorporate a lot more standards in their playlist. Other stations such as KOSY "Cozy" in Salt Lake City and WTRV "The River"" in Grand Rapids, MI were offering a similar format up until a year or two ago, but have since morphed into the current incarnation of soft AC.

The two online steams I listen to and recommend for "true soft AC": Soft 'N Easy Radio and the soft rock format on Dream Radio/Solace.FM.

That just complicates things. If it's not the same soft AC, it's mainstream AC and has its own board. I hesitate to call any station that plays "Jesse's Girl", "Any Way You Want It", "Hurts So Good", "Love Is a Battlefield" and "Little Red Corvette" by any name that includes "soft".

I do like some of Gordon Lightfoot's material, but I think it's safe to say most of what we want is what you'd find on standards radio. Actually, I've never heard "That's The Way It Is" on standards radio, but I like it better that way. He does seem to show up in smooth jazz.
