PLACE YOUR BETS: HOW MUCH WILL IDOL'S PREMIERE BE UP/DOWN ?

How will IDOL do tonight with their new judges? I think many will be tuning in just to see the
latest "car wreck". Put me down for 10-11% audience down from the 2010 premiere. I feel the
concept is getting old and it is no longer a must see.

I am sure the premier will have decent to high ratings as many people just want to see what the new judges are all about.

Surely tomorrow critics will compare one of the judges to being the new Simon Cowell.

I think throughout the season ratings will wane.

Perhaps best would be for the show to skip a season and come back anew a year later.

It never was a "must see". Train wreck from the beginning. Reminded me of The Gong Show.

The panelists are a freak show. They make The Three Stooges look like normal people.

Flat from last year for tonight. Second episode ratings will be where its at.

TV BY THE NUMBERS is reporting that IDOL was down 18% (ages 18-49) from the 2010
debut.

TV GUIDE reports that IDOL was expecting their better numbers for the debut and then a
gradual drop off..............OUCH!!!

Has IDOL run out of gas? Is it on life-support?

If the premiere is down 18%, that's a very bad portent for the rest of the season. Which is fine with me. AI got old a few years ago and has been limping along ever since.

Like Brett Favre, it's time to put it out of its misery.

It still is crushing the competition a 9.7 in the demo it beats the other networks combined of course it's down no simon and it's ten years old. duhhhhhhhhhhh check csi's ratings now vs five or six years ago they're way down.

The only problem with a failing AI is that Fox will find a way to put on something equal or worse in it's time slot.

Part of the problem is the AI season is way too long. They need to start the show about halfway through the season when most of the bad singers are already weeded out. I usually only watch the last few episodes to see the good people. Why would I waste my time for weeks watching bad singers?

Which American Idol-related singer will sing the National Anthem for Super Block XLV, since the game is on FOX? They did that with Jordan Sparks and Super Bowl XLII in 2008. Be prepared to have that mute button ready when they shove this crap down our throat that night.

This is from Zap2it..............
Still decent ratings, just trending downwards

A comparison of the season premieres of all 10 seasons (viewers in millions):

Season 1: 9.9 (summer premiere)
Season 2: 26.5
Season 3: 28.56
Season 4: 33.58
Season 5: 35.53
Season 6: 37.4
Season 7: 33.4
Season 8: 30.4
Season 9: 29.8
Season 10: 26.1

Ratings, espeically in key demos, most networks would love to have. Hardly shocking a 10-season old show shows gradual declines. But as long as it's topping the competition, Fox has every reason to be pleased.

I think they would be more happy if IDOL was holding steady or increasing, but doubt
they have the kleenex out yet. Ratings help determine commercial costs.

Looking at Steven Tyler reminds me of my car's leather seats...old and badly cracked.

Seriously, it's going to be too much about the judges and not enough about the contestants. Why AI couldn't get an acerbic host-Brit or otherwise-is beyond me. I'm not suggesting Piers Morgan (too identified with another similar show), but many tuned in simply to see Simon's reactions and hear his comments. He was HONEST with the singers...this is a cut-throat business, and he reminded them of that. There's little in the way of water-cooler discussion so far.

In the past, AI would go two hours each of the two or three nights it would air at first. I was somewhat surprised they didn't go this route, especially with the pre-season buzz that its best days were behind it.

Fellow Idol winner Carrie Underwood did the anthem at Super Bowl XLIV last year, so if those rumors are true, Christina Aguilera may do the honors this year.
