Place Your Bets - next station to flip is...

I'm betting on 107.3 or 100.7 to either a news/talk format or back to Q100 (which was better IMHO)
98.1 isn't hitting it either which is a shock.

"100.7 WCOA-FM" (their mono signal reaches Destin quite nicely and at least Crestview would have a newstalker they can hear)

107.3 pretty much has flipped to pure rhythmic chr. They now position themselves as Today's Hottest Party Hits. As for I100. I just don't see cumulus flipping it any time soon. They invested a lot into it.

Just got back from a few days on The Riviera (sorry I couldn't flag everyone for a beer at The Dock or Juana's Pagodas, but had the wife in tow and a jam-packed schedule)... but listened to as much radio as I could squeeze in between catching beads & Moon Pies...

Some quick observations: No obvious candidates for immediate flips. JLQ actually sounds pretty good in CHR and they've taken a bite--a share or two--out of WABB (which still sounds great) in both markets. 107's rhythmic thing (Rhythmic AC? CHR? Whatever?) isn't a grabber--a computer in a closet--but I'm betting that someone at CC will eventually remember they own it and put a little effort into whatever it is before even thinking about a flip. Given the rest of their Mobile-Pcola cluster, the positioning is right...

TK sounds great--kudos to Joel and Company. XBM and MEZ sound solid--nice job, Dave & crew.

And in Panama City, Island 106 sounds excellent. FWIW, PFM doesn't sound bad--just overshadowed by a much better WILN.

Oh, and in picturesque Destin/FWB, Mr. Carter's Seabreeze 106.3 sounds... perfect.

More later...

Listen Yankee...Like Y0U have a clue about real Rivera radio after you defected. Didn't get down to harass CCENG? How was the weather??? I think you actually missed the place while typing all that out, didn't ya? Where'd ya end up staying???

Pensacola Beach Hilton... mostly cloudy & 65--but sunshine for the beach Mardi Gras parade. Caught around a million beads. Thought about CCENG when flying into the flashy new "Greater Ebro Dog Track & Northwest Florida Beaches & Swampland International Airport"--no actual international flights, mind you, but it COULD happen--and even thought of punching up PAP or Sunny for a second... but bouncing back & forth between 105.9 and 107.9 was way too much fun. In any other market, WPFM would do well--just not in the same market as Island 106. Drove through Metropolitan Seaside and listened to 106.3--perfect fit for the upscale Beaches of South Walton--they sound very healthy, with tons-o-local-direct spots featuring client voices (the way it should be done). Lunch at Georges--great fish sandwich!

You're right, of course. A damn Yankee couldn't possibly understand Gulf Coast Radio. It's a Southern Thang! But we can still hang around Destin and appreciate the jumbo shrimp at Harry T's... and margaritas at The Dock. (Yeah, my vacations are really all about food & drink)!

So are they going to change the name "107.3 the Groove" to something else?

No for now the name is the same. They just updated the jingles and the moniker. Sounds pretty much like WILD 105.7&96.7 in ATL which is fine by me.

I would guess that groove exists to chip away from I, ABB, and some of the other rhythmic players. It looks like they have dropped all classic & recurrent product  :(  Now you can hear Pitbull, Gaga, and Akon on three or more stations.

It looked like MY 1073 was doing okay in the ratings. I guess it was a threat to Lite Mix.

I don't see any changes in the future.

Well, it would make sense if they would make a name change. My guess is "107.3 the Party" because their new moniker is Today's Hottest Party Hits...seems a little lame but whatever CC

Well, if 107.3 has already flipped from Rhythmic AC to Rhythmic CHR I guess that answers the question posed by this thread, eh? The answer is... WRGV.

And maybe it answers most of the questions I had while listening to the SOB last week--it sure sounded off-base for an R-AC. Regardless, imaging was weak, IMHO--and there was little human input. Some VT in mid-day and PMD... traffic reports (but nothing else) in AMD.

But, look. Clear Channel has truckloads of the world's best radio programmers on the payroll, with expertise in every format known to mankind. No doubt this is the result of extensive--and expensive--research, and will vault 107.3 to the top of the market. This must be what great radio stations sound like.

Right?

Yes, 901Rocks.... dream on.

However, even if they did. It wouldn't make a difference. WHHZ has L&T and that's what gave RUF it's numbers (and Gators sports, of course)
