Planet Green Put Out To Pasture

Kinda liked Planet Green, but Destination America doesn't look bad either.

The concept of Destination America reminds me of the Travel Channel. While the Travel Channel features places in the United States and other countries, Destination America would focus on the United States only.

I wonder if Discovery Communications will ever realize that their "non-core" assets will never perform at the same level as their "core" assets. Constantly rebranding, refocusing, reimagining a channel when it doesn't live up to a consultants report, or a focus group's enthusiasm, is merely putting lipstick on a pig.

Rebranding "Discovery Kids" to "The Hub" was an excellent idea, the ratings have improved for them now.

Didn't Discovery use to own Travel Channel?

Planet Green has been far off its original format for a while now. Infact with all the ghost theme programing it has aired, it kinda already reminds me of travel channel, who has ghost adventures marathons Friday & Saturdays nights. They even changed the color of their circle logo, which I always thought represented a green earth, to red a year or 2 ago.

The announcement of the network in USA Today said that they put on the different programming on purpose to try to up the ratings and get some kind of audience in, while also doing a test of different schedule concepts. I don't blame them; if they would've launched with the pure Planet Green format, DA would end up being a stillborn format with an audience that would've had to seek them out, and look how well that worked with the Discovery Health-->OWN transition.

This is great news. When I hear "green" anything it makes me think of wacko tree-huggers. The funny thing is, I liked some of the "green" shows on the channel. It was just apparent to me there was not enough programming or interest to sustain that as a channel. Destination America sounds like a much better idea.

I will miss Planet Green, it's always had great programming in my opinion. It's pretty much a secondary Discovery channel though.

While on the surface having a "green" network sounds good, their mission statement and focus was too nebulous and broad. I can see a channel having a block of "green" shows, but it is very difficult to keep going when you don't have a strong focus especially when it comes to program development, carriage.

I always figured planter green would morph into an HGTV type channel, with the green representing gardening and such.

There has not been anything "green" on that channel since Ed Begley, Jr. gave up trying to power
a three bedroom ranch house on four 9-volt batteries.

Even the logo has not had green in it for some time.

I don't see how haunted house and psycho (er, psychic ::) ) shows fit into a green theme, and I hope they get dumped from Destination America.
