Planet Radio 107.3 : First listen

Lex and Terry from 6am til 11am. THIS will be the THE fatal flaw in I<3's strategy- MORNING SHOWS ON ROCK STATIONS ARE DEAD! MORE MUSIC MORNINGS IS WHAT SELLS! Plus, FIVE hours of these morons is way too long! I hope to God the re-launch of Planet was not structured around L&T, like it was the last go around.

11am arrived & we get music. The imaging voice is the same one heard on Orlando's WTKS. Refreshing! I like his sound & vibe better than the person doing it prior (don't know his name, but I believe he is the "national imaging voice" for I<3's rock stations.) As for the music.....well.....

Bon Jovi- Dead or Alive (Bon Jovi has no place on rock radio. Ever.)
Green Day- Basket Case
Bad Company- Feel like Makin' Love
Smashing Pumpkins- Bullet with Butterfly Wings

Just a quick listen, but it sounds like what I<3 has allowed Active to morph into...an incongruent blending of rock from separate and distinct eras. 70's & 80's rock always have & always will have more in common with themselves, as does 90's & 2k+ rock, yet, PD's seem to disagree. Well ok, let's see how well this works out.

Overall, I am thrilled we have an actual rock station back in Jax. Not a classic hits or an alternative station, but a straight ahead rock station. The "mix" isn't to my liking overall, but we'll see where that goes. With the future of Cox in flux, maybe they'll come along and force I <3's hand. Probably not. Who knows.

Now that Planet Radio has moved from the 99 watt translator on 97.3 to the full power, 100kW 107.3 for the second time, what is going to happen with 97.3 translator? Will it become a translator for Sports Talk WFXJ 930 AM? WFXJ surely needs a FM signal in order to remain competitive with WJXL 92.5 FM/1010 AM.

After taking a closer listen....

This station has become a hybrid of the (former) Planet 93.3/107.3 & Rock 105. It's a bit heavy on the classic rock (obviously to take shots and listeners away from 96.9) and they are not playing any new rock whatsoever (No Ghost, No Slipknot, No Bring Me the Horizon....the top current acts in rock today). Hoping this will change very, very soon.

Production quality is decent, albeit with some flubs (airing commercials for the upcoming I Heart music festival airing on Fox...WAWS? Those calls were dropped like 5-7 years ago at least? It's WFOX now!)

Overall, it's been a decent launch & I do find myself defaulting to it more often, despite overplaying 80's Aerosmith & Bon Jovi. Really would like to see more 90's & 2k+ gold, as well as new currents. Do it right & kill off the horrid 106.5 & put a major dent into 96.9.
