Plantium

I'm hearing more and more "Slams" at KLUV by Ron Chapman's sweepers. Apparently Ron's programming is overrated. He should know better.

The 55+ doesn't like that and it will backfire on him. Mature adults don't like that petty BS.

It's time to retire Ron. You're out of touch [EDIT]

[EDIT-inflammatory]

Interesting...I agree the 55+ silverhairs dont like bickering, wonder how its going to play out. Will they depart KLUV and have that audience replaced by the older 70''s kid/Gen X crowd or will they stay committed with the KLUV product?

Its about the music. I'm hearing some good music on platinum - that's all that matters. And hearing Ron's voice on the radio again is nice, same with Larry Dixon and the others. Great station - I don't like "clunkers" but they are playing some good stuff everybody else has forgotten.

Sure, "Plantium" is somewhat competition for KLUV, but I'd guess that your more 'livelier' 55+ crowd will stick with KLUV, and the more mellow portion of the 55+ folks will stick with Platinum (but I bet lots of the same folks teeter between the two, depending on their mood.) BTW, KLUV's HD-2 channel sounds a LOT like Platinum. Nah, I wouldn't cast stones at KLUV...it's a different genre of music with not a lot of crossover songs between the two stations. Platinum would be better suited to trash KAAM instead.

Best "stone" thrown at another station lately: KEGL's billboards that say, "NOT safe for the entire family" (a jab at KLTY's slogan.)

It's my wife's favorite station.

But for me (having played a lot of those songs during my thankfully short on-air career in the early 70's) it's maddening. There's a lot of really bad music on 96.7 (let's pick on gems like "Tracy" by the Cuff Links and "Back Home Again" by John Denver) that filled the time between stop sets for their 3 month life span and has no business being resurrected 35+ years later. But ya gotta play something I guess! They'll probably PPM very well, they seem ideally programmed for that.

Ownership inertia and age bias will keep Platinum from ever developing as a sales vehicle and I eventually see it sold as a bonus or low cost flanker to 820/96.3.

It's KEOM with better execution and talent, and the ability to run spots!

I always used to think of the original KVIL of the late 70's and early 80's as the perfect station for the divorced woman in her 30's who in the words of Barry Manilow was "ready to take a chance again." She's now in her 60's! Platinum is her station.

My question is: Is it going to flip to Christmas Music for the season like Memories did?

You can ask Vic Thomas that question.
