PLAY 98.7

Just looked in the ratings (12+) and they are awful. Looks like they didn't even benefit from people tuning in to see wgat they are playing.
For those who know, how are they doing in their p1s?
Should they have remained as Smooth Jazz?
Or, something else?

Keeping Jazz would have been a smart move. Or try another format like Urban Contemporary.

Play is sounding better but even then the signal is weak. Its signal can't compete with a 100,000 Watt Class C like Mix. Its why while 97X sounds better 98Rock while always be 1# Rock-Wise.

That's awesome the ratings suck!..I hope 98.7 switches to a Spanish station like 92.5! WE need another Spanish station in this market. There are plenty and plenty of Spanish people who live in Tampa bay

Just noticed they've got a good morning show now with That Guy Kramer and nice personalities all day and evening too. I wish them well. I like it.

"Alt" (button) 0161 will do the trick.

If Urban AC is in the cards, I'd imagine CBS would simply tweak WLLD (which is also floundering, thanks to competition from The Beat, Hot 105, and 'FLZ).

I wouldn't be surprised to see Play go all Xmas early, and debut a new format for 2012. Might even end up being a simulcast of an existing CBS AM station....

OK..here's one for free. Adult Standards including select jazz. Not the pseudo "smooth jazz" Lionel Ritchie ect...or Adult Standards (moyl) that include Roger Miller...The format would take some of the cume away from DUV who wins many listeners through default as well as satisfy the displaced smooth jazz folks and possibly some "oldies" audience...sure it would skew older, however, you'd own the demo and be the only game in town. Add Jeff Laurence image liners and people who know how to sell the product. Fortunately, I know a GM who could put it all together.

That "existing CBS AM station" would be 1010, I imagine. They could keep using the "Play 98.7" name.

Personally, I think "Play" goes better with sports than music, anyway.

But, I have trouble listening to Sports Radio for any length of time.

In the past, I've usually figured it's been an interim format on FM until as which time the management becomes decision maker and put a music format back on the frequency - but my thinking may be changing as I've noticed demographic habits seem to not be fitting into the same mold anymore.

(Wow, how wishy-washy is that?)

Wonder if Clear Channel decides to flip 95.7 The Beat to one of their AM stations as Clear Channel just did that yesterday in the Columbia, SC market. The station was also using The Beat name.

Then that would help WiLD 94.1 which has a better cume then The Beat.

The clue for what they should do is right down the road in Orlando...Star does extremely well with an urban a/c format and having Tom Joyner and Mike Baisden anchor AM & PM drive [both are available in Tampa]. In fact the urban a/c format is consistently a strong PPM performer across the country. This is a "No Brainer!" Why wait till Christmas...blow it up now; and, move forward!
