OK you are hired to do a News Talk type of format on am AM station in Albuquerque........Tell me the line up that will but enough of a dent in KOB
that you can make a profit

Why bother. There's not a big enough signal left to compete.
Too expensive to man.

Ok lets just say I had A 50kw signal so no signal prob....what would you do

For starters, look for some local talent. It is out there, but the gentrification has been bad in Albuquerque. I have heard some good young local talkers, but they can't get a scheduled slot. Preferably a two-man crew, one male and one female. Oh... and one needs to be a native NM hispanic.

Weekday Lineup:
3AM-8AM: Doug Stephan
8AM-10 AM: Local talkers
10AM-1PM: Thom Hartmann
1PM-3PM: Local talkers
4PM-8PM: Michael Savage (live)
9PM-Midnight: Listener suggested podcasts
Midnight-3AM: Jeff Rense?

Weekends would be the usual pick of gardening, financial, technology and pet shows. Either local or syndicated.

ED this is lets play the PD....IF you were given a Station that had no signal issues it can be AM or FM What do you think it would take to beat KOB
Lineup, etc This is an excersise, To see what you guys think would work, it is for fun. KAGM had no real signal problems SO lets say you had KAGM today and were told do a talk station that will get numbers

Bobee..most everyone replying is telling you what they'd do.
Nothing.

I disagree :p KKOB sucks, and especially that Vilanucci creep. For all its failings, I do miss KAGM and especially Chris "The Bean" Sisneros.

In my dream scenario, the Democrats will enact a telecommunications law that will force Big Media to dump stations on local owners. No more of this speculating in television, radio stations and newspapers. No more of that giant slurping sound as Big Media sucks profits out of small towns and into Corporate Banks.

If that happened, we would see the value of stations drop to the point where local owners could own and operate them, and corporate-mandated profitability would not be a concern. Cut out the stockholders, the CEOs and the gold-plated faucets in the corporate jets and radio would suddenly be profitable for local owner-operators. I think the demise of local radio since Clinton's Telecommunication deregulation has just proven how badly the corporate model works with radio.
