Playing the 'short' version of songs on Sirius - Why?

This morning, and I can't recall the channel, I listened to a shortened version of Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4. It was a clean modificiation, but being a huge Chicago fan, it was obvious and quite frankly, it pissed me off. This isn't the first time I've heard a modified version of a song on Sirius.

1 - Am I the ony one who has a problem with this?
2 - Why would Sirius do this? Its not like they have to get more stop sets in.

1. No you're not, theres quite a few of us who take issue with this
2. Thats a question I ask as well, I like hearing the full album cut of a track, not the "radio edit". Thats why I got sirius in the first place

The best thing you as a paying customer can do is to write, email and call Sirius over this issue. I have a similar issue, I cannot get the Grass Roots 1969 hit "I'd Wait A Million Years" played on their 60s channel, yet they play "Midnight Confessions" by the Grass Roots everyday. I will make you a deal, you write and request "I'd Wait A Million Years" and ask them why it doesn't get played and I will do the same for you about radio edited versions of songs- no excuse for either one.

Wow! Sirius is worse than I ever imagined! I've heard "I'd Wait a Million Years" on FM oldies stations with 400-song playlists, so it must test well with the focus groups. There's no excuse for a pay-radio service not to be playing it, even if its intent is simply to duplicate FM minus the commercials.

As for long versions, FM stations vary. I hear the long "25 or 6 to 4" here in Connecticut all the time, as well as the long version of the Young Rascals' "I've Been Lonely Too Long." But I go up to Boston and hear only the short versions. I've heard Andrew Gold's "Lonely Boy" on several stations, including XM's '70s on 7, and I hear only the "radio edit," yet I distinctly remember hearing a longer version when the song was a hit. I assume Sirius only plays the radio edit of this one, if it plays the song at all.

The most unforgivable FM sin when it comes to editing is something that's been done only within the past year or so: snipping "The Load Out" off Jackson Browne's "The Load Out/Stay" and playing just the "Stay" portion. I've heard this on several stations and it raises my blood pressure a few points every time. If sat-radio ever tries this, I'll be complaining long and loud.

Just heard Jackson Brown's Loadout/Stay on Sirius, they havent cut it by playing the edited version. The playlist on the 60s channel is around 1000 songs, but that Grass Roots hit "I'd Wait A Million Years" is not included, and it cant be anoversight, because I have told them many, many times that it is missing in the lineup......lazy programming is the culprit, not an error of ommision.

XM's 60's channel plays the song...though they generally have wider playlists than Sirius.

From their recent "IT" event: http://www.xmradio.com/pdf/it/60s-IT-2006.pdf

I suppose it depends what channel you were listening to. If it was the 70s channel, I can see why it may have been the short version...the is the "Top 40" channel of the 70s...playing hits. The short version of 25 or 6 to 4 was the "hit" version of the song. However, if you're listening to one of the album rock channels, it should have been the long version for sure.

i'm endlessly fascinated at the capacity of some people for bitching and moanin.

100 channels but waaaaaaaahh they cut my fave song short.

yocco's dead on. its a pop song so you get the radio version. and a bad pop song at that.

The song Knights In White Satin when played on the 70's channel, they never play the long version, but when they play it on one of the MANY rock stations, the long version is played.

And I'm endlessly amazed at the time some people have to bitch and moan about other people's posts. Oh the free time they must have.

The response I received by Yocco was a perfectly good one and addresses a question which, based on the responses of others, was a valid concern of some Sirius subscribers.

Valid concern? ::)

In any case the point of boards is to communicate and unfortunately you can't control the responses you may get. If you don;t want potential criticism I suggest you keep your small thoughts to yourself.
