Playoffs and World Series on Boston radio...where?

The baseball playoffs are coming and the Red Sox are probably going to be in them barring an incredible collapse.
We know WEEI will carry the Red Sox but what of the non-Sox playoff games, now that Boston has no ESPN
station? Of course we could hear anytime now that maybe the ESPN/WEEI deal could be done, the rumor being
ESPN to 850 and WEEI to 93.7 or 107.3/97.7 but there are other possibilities incl. maybe Entercom doing a deal
just for the playoffs (put them on WRKO maybe? if no deal...)

I can't remember the World Series not being on Boston radio (assuming the Sox don't make it all the way). The past few years they were on 890/1400. You might not have been able to get them, but they were there. And if there's
no broadcast(s), there's always NYC or Hartford stations, etc.

Would Entercom announce a move of WEEI to FM, and ESPN to 850, around the start of the Celtics season (late
Oct. I think?) But how about this: do you know that this year the World Series is starting at the latest time ever?
Game 1 is on Oct 28...some World Series have gone 7 games and _ended_ on Oct 26 but this yr it starts on Oct 28.
And game 7 if it goes that far takes place on Nov. 5. If you're in a place like Philly, NYC, Boston, or Detroit,
dress warmly folks. November 5! Heck, WODS could be doing Christmas by then! :) (Don't laugh: wasn't it
Nov 12 last yr?)

Anyway, we can hope our beloved Sox make it all the way to the World Series but still...who would carry
the non-Sox playoff games? The poss. of Entercom getting 99.5 is now gone and perhaps soon we'll find out
about WEEI moving to FM in the near future.

With Boston having a well-deserved reputation as an ultra-parochial sports market, with smaller than national average audiences for games not involving local teams, why would any radio station bother to pick up the playoff games? World Series, maybe, but I can't see Cardinals-Rockies or Yankees-Tigers doing any kind of number on radio in Boston, especially with the games on TV.

Now relevant thread, as I very much wanted to listen to the twins/ tigers one game playoff match but alas, it is neither on espn tv here and obviously not espn radio

I'd like them in English of course.
Today I went into work (work nights) 2 hrs later than usual--took time off to be with a friend who's in town--
and I got to hear the 7-8 pm hr of the game on the XM in my car. Heard bits and pieces (not much) while in one part of my workplace where distant signals do come in (CHUM was overpowering WEPN on 1050 but I could hear a bit of it; a co-worker was outside and could pick up the AM 1000 from Chicago). I finally heard the final score via
an update on 98.5 the Sports Hub. An exciting game, we've been told, IF you could pick it up

Not Boston but WGAM 1250 Manchester NH and WGHM 900 in Nashua will be picking up ESPN (won't help my work situation but should help some to the north w/ baseball playoffs etc.)

Was picking up 900 here in Beverly (1250 out of question due to WMKI 1260) and heard them play promos for Pats and Sox games. Now they add the B's too; 3 out of 4 (and who knows maybe they have Celts too?) of the Boston major sports teams...I think WGIR used to have the Sox but they picked up NH Fisher Cats and Sox went to "The
Game" (and earlier this season a few games couldn't be carried by the Manchester/Nashua duo because of late payment of rights fee, which got settled)

I'm pretty sure that WLKW 1450 in West Warwick, RI and WNBH 1340 in New Bedford, MA will carry the games as they are ESPN stations.

As we found out a little earlier, WEEI could run many games--certainly I'd hope the World Series, with or without the Sox would be on EEI (Sox network if Sox in it, ESPN otherwise). Perhaps some ALCS, NLCS games.

I'm hoping the Spanish feed from ESPN will be on WLYN/WAZN... I need the hours I'm unemployed again!

phantom jobs at WGBH

I wouldn't bet the rent check of this "opportunity". WGBH always
has "job listings" pending. I sent them them applications for over
20 YEARS, and never once so much as an interview. I believe that
they must post these "openings" publicly, to satisfy some legal requirements.
They either already have someone in mind, or the position is not funded,
or they are being politically correct, etc. In short: don't quit your day job!)

As for dealing with unions, in general - I have been on both sides of that scenario - it
definitely cuts both ways, good and bad...

Why do they want you to have a bachelors degree? Why isnt an associates degree, technical school certificate, HS diploma, or Kindergarten award not good enough?
Radio does not require any schooling whatsoever other than knowing how to run a board. Who are they kidding?

I have worked for a PBS station and it is required. I am sure the jobs are there and they are probably required to post it under some EEO law but in the day of PC they pick and choose who they hire. Many years ago people would say to me I'm not going to apply they won't hire me, for one reason or another, and I said well are YOU worth the price of a postage stamp?

Re: phantom jobs at WGBH

That's an old job posting from almost two years ago. I've seen it many times. It's from when they were looking for fill-in classical hosts for 89.7.

I just checked the WGBH website. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place, but I don't see that posting in their current job listings any more.

Playoffs and World Series in Spanish

Beginning with Thursday (10/15) night's game, WLYN 1360 and
WAZN 1470 will begin ESPN's Spanish coverage of the baseball playoffs and
World Series games. Yea, the Red Sox are now toast - maybe next year -
but the games continue...
