Plaza Hotel Wants To Appeal To Hispanics. KDWN AM 720 Puts A Bad Light On Hotel They Claim

KDWN AM 720 has broadcasted from the plaza hotel since 1975. It used to be known as the Union Plaza Hotel. Then Jackie Gaughn came along and changed name to Jackie Gaughn's Plaza hotel until just last year in 2004. Boyd Gaming group now owns the hotel and is looking to appeal to minorities.

KDWN AM 720 has a show on illegal immigration which features Mark Edwards. The show is about how illegal immigration is hurting america and how it must be stopped.

The new owners of the plaza hotel boyd gaming group wants to appeal to minorities and they feel KDWN AM 720's "Wake Up America" is too controversal.

The new hotel owners feel the station KDWN AM 720 takes up too much valuable space in the hotel needed for expansion. KDWN's contract expires early next year in 2006.

The owner of KDWN is very cheap and so I'm not sure where the station will go.

Maybe, KDWN can do exactly what KLAV AM 1230 did.

KLAV AM 1230 used to broadcast from Bob Stupack's Vegas World. It is now the statesphere. When the hotel was sold and torn down, KLAV AM 1230 moved it's headquarters to a residential area near Las Vegas BLVD and Sahara.

KLAV today survived and doing fine. It's a broker station though.

Maybe KDWN can find some abandoned house or building they could possibly use for a future site. They could possibly move somewhere around Fremont & Main St.

Not the greatest of neighborhoods but cheaper rent. Love to see KDWN on West Sahara Ave near KSNE,KWNR,KWID clear channel stations.

Boyd sold the Plaza to Barrick gaming last year.

Obviously Barrick Gaming is not as Generous as Jackie Gaughn to offer free rent to a radio station as long as they advertise the hotel on their commercial spots.

When did Jackie Gaughn Sell the plaza?
What hotel does Jackie Gaughn own now or is he retired from the business or is in some other business venture?

Who had the plaza hotel before Jackie Gaughn when the hotel was known as The Union Plaza Hotel.

I'm not exactly sure but when KDWN came on the air for the first time in 1975, what was the deal with the hotel and the station in 1975?

I believe the deal was KDWN could remain in the hotel as long as they advertised the hotel and ran their sports book programs from the Stardust Line.

Why couldn't A.J. Williams set up a small studio for KDWN in those years as he currently does for his Fresno owned TV station in California.

If he would've known this beforehand, maybe his 50,000 watt station wouldn't be kicked out after 31 years.

Could this truly be the end for this 50,000 watt powerhouse of the west KDWN AM 720? A.J. Williams is old and probably needs to sell the station now so he can finally retire. I know he said he wouldn't sell KDWN to any corporate giant like Infinity or Clear Channel but what does anyone think the likely result will be in early 2006?

Either station management may change their tune and drop the illegal immigration show "Wake Up America" or they may not.

To satisfy new hotel owners, KDWN would have to diversify and offer more ethnic programming for a growing latino population.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by billboardmister on 06/02/05 04:58 AM.</FONT></P>

Jackie Gaughan owns the cortez hotel which dates from 1948...I think his sons are investors in the coast resorts: gold coast suncoast orleans and new southcoast south on strip nder construction.
