I am looking for some great Adult Standards stations/streams to listen to. About 5 or 6 years ago I would stream [email protected] from St Louis and loved it. When they first signed on, the music mix and station imaging was fantastic. I didn't think their limited air staff was strong, but the vibe, feel and tempo of the station really presented a very listenable format for an audience in their 30's & 40's. Unfortunately, eventually the station badly lost focus and ultimately Emmis sold it to Radio One who changed format.

By comparison, here in L.A. during the same time, we had the Fabulous 570 KLAC later becoming 690 The Lounge. Excellent air talent and a good music mix, but IMHO they didn't have the same cool swinging mix of music or imaging to make the station a frequent listen for me. Although I don't think they sounded so schmultzy as to be targeting 65+...to me they did sound 55+.

Are there any good stations to stream that have that same vibe that Red had?

Well, the program director of 570 KLAC and 690 is now doing a Internet-only format at martiniinthemorning.com (without the Clear Channel overlords).

While I remember when Red 104.1 came out, I never got the chance to listen to it. As you seem to have spent sometime with that station, I'd be interested in your comments on our new project - The Penthouse (www.thepenthouseradio.com) which is a contemporary standards station rather than the usual "memories" fare on other stations.

You bring up a good point about Martiniinthemorning.com and the CC influence. I knew they were on, but without giving it thought, assumed it would be the same mix as what was over the air. In the coming days I'll have to give them a listen when I have a chance.

As far as the Penthouse goes, after seeing your previous posts mentioning it, I checked it out briefly, as I was short on time. I enjoyed it much more than the typical MOYL formats, but to me it does not sound quite like what Red was doing....not that your format isn't as good. I'll listen more in the coming days when I have more time and let you know what my 2 cents are....which is really overstating it's worth.

I definately do not want to suggest that I am any sort of expert on Adult Standard formats. Although I have been in the biz for over 20 years and my programming days were the first 10 years of my career working in Rock, CHR & AC....I only offer my opinions in this format based on what I like.

Hunter, I am really looking for listener comments as we fine tune this format.

Like I said before, I never heard Red 104.1 - but was aware of it. I realize that I need to dig up an aircheck of that station to see what the fuss was about.

I have done adult standards in my past (and sat in Al Ham's home on the Connecticut Gold Coast years ago explaining my plan to adjust his format to fit our needs in New Haven) but I have worked in other formats from oldies to AC to JACK. This is my reapproaching the standards over two decades later and seeing what we can do. I find that there is a lot of interest in this genre - both from artists and listeners.

You might want to check out the NEW Music of Your Life site. The music is changing with some really good stuff being added and the stream is awsome at 128kps cd quality. Please check it out. You should like what you hear.

The site is also being worked on daily.
