Please Tell Me About WMAY

Hello All,

I saw a job posted on ALL ACCESS regarding an afternoon Talk Show opening at WMAY. I'm not familiar with the station. I've logged onto their website to check out their line up, etc. How many watts are they? Are their talk shows interesting? Good interaction with listeners? Are they out of Springfield? Please give your honest opinion to an outsider wanting to learn more.

Thanks!

My ex wife is from Springfield Illinois, so I've been to the area a few times to see her folks. Last time was Christmas in 2001. WMAY is from Springfield. It's at 970 AM with 1000 watts of power. At the time it had a predominantly local line-up and was well programmed, imaged and executed. Presentation was tight and there were few if any technical glitches. I don't know how the lineup has changed in 7 years, but it was not owned at the time by any large corporations, just local, and their focus was local, with syndication overnights. They do have a big band music show on Sunday mornings, but other than that, it's all talk. A small town AM talker that doesn't sound or feel that way. It's not the kind of station that is an "afterthought" of it's owners, it only had one other station that it owned...98.7 FM which is light rock. Management in 2001 made sure that both stations were live and local as much as possible.
