PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS A STUNT: "Texas Twister"?

The worst ever idea in Dallas radio was putting the exact same music by the exact same artists on a rimshot signal next door to your 100KW full market signal. The lesson of how stupid an idea this was learned, KPMZ was born.

Citadel is bringing it back??????

Citadel has no clue what they're doing. They have a long history of making moves like this.

Platinum 96.7 itself was a "bring back" of a previous format (Unforgettable Favorites)

Since Citadel shut down what Platinum was based off of (the satellite Timeless Favorites format) they probably are just waltzing back a bit like they did when they launched Platinum 96.7

Make sense?

It's not completely crazy.

The Wolf is a top 3 station P25-54, and one of the 5 highest billing stations in the market in any given month. If they can position it far enough away from KSCS that they don't cannabalize them, and hurt KPLX in the ratings/pocketbook, it might make sense.

But beware the law of unintended consequences. The Fan went on the air gunning for the Ticket, convinced they were going to knock the ticket off it's high horse. And all they've done is drag ESPN down closer to their (The Fan's ) level.

6+ the 2 stations aren't that far apart (last trend Wolf a 4.4 and KSCS a 3.9) but I'm pretty sure the Wolf has a pretty good lead on them 25-54. And that's where the money is. Hit KPLX in their perceived wheelhouse (Texas Country) and maybe that helps KSCS enough to make it more competitive a battle...

But remember why they flipped the Twister: It did not hurt The Wolf at all. All it did was drag down the ratings of KSCS.

Speculate all you all want, but I won't be a "believer" until Monday morning. Me, I'd stay tuned to Hal Jay first thing early Monday.

Then again, remember when The Twister ran the first 6 months jockless and didn't even change the calls away from KMEO in that same length of time? Then again again, The Eagle came back after years in mothballs. Then again again again, it's Dallas radio, and this perfectly fits the level of moron-icity and short-sightedness that we should all be used to seeing by now. Yawn.

The tragedy here is not that we're subjected to this disgusting, Young Country redux music again, but that a group of talented, dedicated and classy people are out of a job now, ultimately at the hands of Fagreed, who still has HIS job.

Which I wrote that they need to not cannabalize KSCS.

I can't hear them where I'm at right now, but if they go real Texas country- think Ranch/Range type music, while KSCS plays trad-country- the latest nashville hits, etc, there COULD be a bright line of difference between them.

So yes, if they both just end up playing Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Lady Antebellum, massive mistake. If KSCS plays pop-country while Twister plays red-dirt, they MIGHT make inroads.

But what is there's a market for that "disgusting" music? There's a thread connecting that comment to Cary Richards whining about Standards; Because the public's taste doesn't match y'all's preconceived notions of what kind of stations there should be in a market, you bitch moan and complain.

Those people were hired to do a job. Get ratings and make revenue. No matter how talented dedicated or classy they are, if someone isn't getting the job done, or if a boss thinks someone else can do a better job, why shouldn't they be replaced?

If it stays the Twister, it will fail !!! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!!!! The Twister sucked when it was on before. How are they going to make it sound better?Anser: they can't

The music they're playing on there now, The Twister never played when the Twister was on before

Sounds like a stunt to me...Top 40? Apparently, KISS has no competition. Any reason why it says Reagan Radio all over the website? What's it playing, all songs from 1935?

Aw, crap. IMNSHO, the only station in D/FW worth listening to on a regular basis, and now it's gone.

Good thing I have my MP3 player...

It's doubtful I'll ever listen to D/FW radio of my own volition again.

Little1 (who's still gutlessly anonymous) - can you not make your point without disparaging me? I don't whine about anything. I've merely expressed my opinion based on my own experiences over the last 20 years. PERIOD.

There are no true adult standards stations in the DFW market. That's not an opinion, it's a statement of fact. How can any sane person believe that by 96.7 going country again will be any better than it was the last time?

And you can split hairs all you want and come up with these artificial labels. Country is country is country. As rock is rock is rock. As talk is talk is talk. Young country, new country, classic country, americana - it's all the same gobbledy-guck. It's singers affecting faux Texas accents (regardless of where their really from) with twangy guitars, sophomoric lyrics and three of four chords in the whole melody. The other music formats are worse. And there's dozens of them that litter the FM dial. Your opinion is no more valid or insightful than my own or for that matter anybody else's who posts here. Your opinion is just that - your opinion.

So kindly refrain from disparaging me in future posts. It invalidates your opinions and makes you look ridiculous.

That being said, I'm with Mike - I think this is a stunt and lets see what they do Sunday morning.

Predictions for the rest of the broadcast day at 96.7:

2PM: Replay of John LaBella's last morning on the air at Memories 96.7 (if only...)

3PM: Up-to-the-minute coverage of Rush Limbaugh's move to Costa Rica

4PM: Becky Wight's all-request lunch hour from Memories

5PM: A collection of Ron Chapman filling in for Paul Harvey

6PM: Woodpecker noises

7PM: Wall-to-wall "live" coverage of Reagan repealing the Fairness Doctrine

8PM: Aircheck of Vic Thomas jocking the "corporate" Memories format at ABCRN

9PM: Replay of the call letter change from KNKI to KMEO

10PM: A "Twister" reunion, featuring Scott Gaines and Allan Peck II

11PM-on: Voicetracked, of course

I know nothing about DFdubya radio, what was wrong with this station? Low ratings, low billing?
