may not mean anything could be a cyber squatter or stunt.

Well, and, to just throw this out there - if they were going to blow up WPLJ, why would they have fired Rocky Allen and the others last week?

Wouldn't you just blow up the station and fire everyone then?

Unless they're in such a state of panic they don't know what they're doing from one week to the next, and we know that's not possible! :p

More than likely, it probably is a cyber squatter.

The only reason I listened to PLJ is because of Scott and Todd and Rocky Allen.

THEY REPEAT TOO MUCH OF THE SAME CRAPPY MUSIC.

I tuned in to Race on Monday to see if he would make any mention of Rocky not being on. I couldn't make it 10 minutes in because the songs are so old, tired, and repeated. Even the new stuff! There are at least three other stations that play the same thing!

A Flush the format weekend would be a great start to test the waters to see what people like, and what they don't like. Country has allot of depressing songs in it, so I wouldn't listen to that if the Sirius country station is any indication of what it would sound like. I think 70's and 80's dance songs, with maybe an hour dedicated to great songs you never heard, would be great. I used to love listening to Al Bandero's Saturday Night at the 70's back in the day :).

If Scott and Todd are gone from the station, I think allot of listeners will bolt as well, no matter the format. Personalities and fun shows are still needed for ratings..

D'oh. Sorry, I didn't check internic, I went to the whois referred to in the record verisign has... an "Aboutdomain.com" which gave me all that weird stuff. You're right, if it's Germany, it ain't Citadel who registered it.

Well, if they are gonna change it, I don't know why they did those firings last week.

If they're not gonna change it, I don't get how you lose 50 percent of your cash flow in a quarter, and don't change it. So, either way, whatever happens, I'm not gonna understand. Bah.

Judy has nothing to do with the ABC/Citadel stations, that the mad middle-eastern man...And Mitch Dolan. Judy runs Colorado Springs and Binghamton.

PLJ IS NOT FLIPPING! for the love of God if you want country, go buy an HD radio and listen to 97.5...They were the 6th highest billing station in NYC last time I checked. You have to be HIGH to think Citadel would change formats on something that rich in the funds.

They didn't cut ties with Scott Shannon - who, of course, is behind that "true oldies" format... Makes you wonder...

They'll probably blow up PLJ and make it "True Oldies 95.5", like they did to Smooth Jazz in DC. So, A) don't expect Smooth Jazz here, and B) they'll find someway to tie it in to WABC (with the classic jingles and all). I can see "(SS V/O) Welcome... to New York's True Oldies Channel, (sung) 95-Five, W-A-B-Ceeeeeeeeeeeee (SS V/O) "FM, New York".

There is no way that a syndicated True Oldies Channel can compete with WCBS-FM. Citadel is trying to save money and will not hire name DJs. To compete with CBS-FM they would have to hire some of the former NYC oldies jocks who were not rehired after 7/12/07. This will not happen. I hope that if WPLJ flips, it would go to country. They would have to format to itself.

Check again.

Not anymore.

NY Daily News:

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertai...wabc_fires_john_gambling_brings_in_sliwa.html

Suleman's remarks seemed to place WPLJ on the firing line.

He said rival station WWFS (102.7 FM, "Fresh"), which began playing some of the same music as WPLJ last year, had delivered a devastating blow to WPLJ's advertising revenues.

Cash flow was "down over 50% on a 70% decline in revenues," he said.

As history suggests, Country just does not work in your market. Someone can do an HD Country thing, but to sell Country to advertisers in NY is ridiculously difficult at best.

Look for Smooth Jazz. It's a no-brainer...A market that size should not be void of a Smooth Jazz station. PLJ has got buzz for it already, thanks to WQCD's flip. They'll get instant ratings and can build from there!

How about Smooth Country? Hee-Haw Jazz??? To satisfy both the fans of country and smooth jazz..... Hell, let's get Candy Dulfur and Kenny G to perform at a Nascar race..

I see country coming before smooth jazz unfortunately. I better get me to wal-mart before i reckon they sell out of them flanel shirts and stetson.

Take it for what it's worth but while listening to Scott and Todd Monday Todd said he was leaving for a convention in Nashville. I believe there is a country radio convention in Nashville this week. Could be something....could be nothing. Folks can make jokes all they want, but Citadel does Country and does it well. Contrary to public opinion it is not a format about hicks and rednecks. I think you'd be rather surprised as to the economic bracket that they come from. It's about going where the money is, and in this economy you would go where the listeners have it.....country is that format. Self promoting, good with men and women.....we shall see.
