"The Eagle Has Landed" (well, it lands next week)

WBPT-FM turning to Classic Hits, adding 60's & 70's artists/songs to their playlist "the Rock & Roll Hits that the Baby Boomers grew up with"

Not sure what this means for the existing staff "No chatter or long-winded disc jockeys; just music and the lowest commercial spot load in the metro (only 8 units per hour!)"

Website is supposed to be www.birminghamseagle.com but it doesn't load for me when I try it.

Sounds like Jack to me. . . Have the Houston, Dayton, and Tampa Points flipped yet, or are they going to?

I'm sure the DJ-less run is an attempt to ward off a true VH coming to town, but just going jockless doesn't make a station a Jack.

WBVX/Lexington, KY went from 80's to Classic Hits not that long ago, and has had quite a bit of success since then.<P ID="signature">______________

actually it's already flipped o_O
and i can finally say i have a station to listen to up here in huntsville that isn't clear channel, or is blocked by translators (106.5 and 99.5) finally cox has done something right and doesn't appear to be as dumb as I previously thought (because of 97.3)

Let the Birmingham Radio Wars begin again...

This is so obviously a direct shot at WZRR. I know it leans on the side of AC, but this is not a jack clone. If anything, it'll be like Hot 107.7 and just take a month to get some jocks in. If not, it's still an Classic Rock/AC playlist. This is just Cox firing back at Citadel for creating Hot 107.7.

I'm gonna be bold and say 97.3 flips to AAA here in the next few months, to compete against The X.

Cox likes to pour salt in the wounds.

Cox says Go after our king (Kiss), we'll go after yours (Citadel's Rock 99.5).

<<<edit>>> And before anyone comes after me for being a bandwagoneer, Ive been saying 106.9 and 97.3 would flip for months. Also, that Cox likes to compete, not be bold or original. Check out my other posts, I do not lie.

So far in the couple of hours I've listened, I've heard very few songs that Rock 99.5 doesn't play and those would be ones they already played as the Point. Actually, aren't they now using the same liner voice guy 99.5 does? Pretty easy to tell who they have in their crosshairs. . .

Not that being Rock 99 w/o the gab and the tiresome redneck bar songs like Thorogood, Nugent, etc. isn't a good thing. It is. I just wish they hadn't went quite so far away from the old playlist.

1st impression?!?!

Ahh geez!
I already have a bad taste in my mouth about the switch. The very first song I heard was "Freeze Frame" (or whatever the hell it's called). For some strange ass reason, it reminds me of one of those weird music melodies from the Bob Sagat days of America's Funniest Home Videos. Sure, you all know how they played that song then froze the video (freeze frame) just before someone's grandma in Indiana got smacked in the face with a pinata stick.

uh, that is DEFINATELY NOT the same voice guy, I beleive ZRR uses Brian "BC" Christopher, same as Rocket 95.1, 96-1 The Rocket and so on

My thoughts exactly. Now that 97.3 has more power and a bigger coverage area, it wouldn't hurt to try Active Rock again and use these calls WBRA--Birmingham's Rock Alternative--Rock 97.3.

I wonder if my question that I posted sometime last week had inspired someone to change the format or name. I haven't had a chance to listen to it since I was too tired from working and my radio in the car is so screw up that half the time it picks up. So, if this appears to end up as a another crappy waterdown classic rock station like 106.1 WTAK is then all hope is lost in EVER having another FM alternative rock station like 107.7 The X reaching into the Guntersville listening area a.k.a. "country music hellhole". I want another station like the old pre-2002 WRAX, not more "classic" hits stations! I don't like those stations and one of them is Fun 92.7, for some strange reason, blocks out Rocket 95.1 like if it was one of those "bad" websites that schools/work places' internet blocker blocks out.

If they stay with this current change in format, then like I said before all hope is lost in ever having a monsterous coverage alternative rock station in Birmingham like 107.7 WRAX was. I am convice that Huntsville, besides that one rock station I can't pick up thanks to Fun 92.7/95.9 WTWX, will never have a fully alternative rock station due to everyone up here love country music since there is so many damn stations devoted to it. I guess, I should move away from the south to escape the country music.

The same Brian Christopher, who was on Kicks 106...the last great radio station on the 106.9 frequency, IMHO

Re: 1st impression?!?!

I listened for a couple of hours tonight when I got home. I won't be giving up my XM in my car, or my Sirius through Dish Netwrok, for the Eagle. Obviously, they're going after 99.5, and to a lesser extent, 96.5. Neither one of them have a thing to worry about.

everyone up here love country music since there is so many

Yeah...escape those uneducated country listeners.
While you're "up there"...look for spell check or grammar fixer!

Actually, you should probably move south. Panama City and Ft. Walton have plenty of rock on the dial. Anyone else catch that monster DX on Columbus Day?

Wow... that's a bit conceited... but, perhaps.

Yeah, G'ville is definately in a hole.. but i'm talking literally. You have several mountains between you and H'ville.. FM doesn't go through mountains very well. That's more likely the reason you can't recieve WRTT very well.

It's not very likely that a 1,450 watt station that ten channels away from WRTT is "blocking" anything. More likely is you live very close to their TX site and are getting some intermod. Their site is on Highway 69 around Scant City. Big Tower, can't miss it.

Given the attitude I have seen you display on these boards, I would like to be the first to give you a wide invitation to do so.

Chris...

Ha! I read your post quickly and didn't realize what the
hell you were trying to do since there were no "previous
post" >>>>>>. That is one of the funniest things I have
ever read on RI. What a mental giant. Good comeback.
Show them big city slickers what you're made of.
