point me in the right direction?

nothing yet. don't you think they might switch ragerad? station has the potential; good dial location. might take a bit of PR and street talk...but could be a major player with some music upgrades. i think the station has potential...really...due for a slight change. by the way; what happened to some of the cumulus jocks?

The point could stand some improvement. I wish the PD could take a look at old 93Q playlists to see what we were really listening to in the 80s. Judging from what I've seen inside, the point is staying right where it is. Which Cumulus jocks are you talking about?

Although perennially lousy, The Point's numbers have now sunk well below what should be the Mendoza Line for Houston radio. Cox should be at least mulling over something different for 106.9, as there is no reason for the trend to reverse.

Eventually the playlists of KHPT and KHTC are going to collide, so something will have to change.

COX Radio already has a format that they could move in and do some damage.
If the Point flipped to a KISS Sister Station, it'd give The Buzz a run for their money.

I wonder if a KISS style station is in the works...outlaw dave's website says stay tuned for a major annoucement. I know Dave used to work at KRBE but I just can't see him doing anything outside of rock now.

i loved Heather. Just because I know and love Heather. As radio...zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Is it just me? I often think that there's so much inbred stuff going on over there in the Cox building that they probably still congratulate each other on a "great break."

That would pretty much sum it up. I've stood in the Cox control rooms; it all depends on who can reuse the same phoners and context-edit to make that same caller from '96 sound like she called today. Big whoop. Great break. Woot.

"Active" rock is not coming to 106.9. But....the geezers have found a home.

I'm not holding my breath, but....stranger things have happened. I remember people swore up and down that Roula and Ryan were not going to return on KRBE and low and behold that happened. The point is tanking in the ratings, a KISS style active rock station would most likely break the top 10.

Most of us have been predicting the demise of "The Point" for several years now, and it has yet to happen, despite its piss poor ratings. They keep adding 70's and 90's to its playlist, but still its "Pointless".

As much as I used to like Pruett and Shannon, I think once again, it's "pointless" to reach back in the time machine and put them on another station. I think you need to go in a fresh direction, even if KHPT, by some miracle, does switch to Rock or Active Rock.

re: Which Cumulus jocks are you talking about?

ragerad: in answer to your question..the wild one; the outlaw. sure he'll show up somewhere. whatever happened to s & p?

on another note, i gotta laugh on this previous post:
..it all depends on who can reuse the same phoners and context-edit to make that same caller from '96 sound like she called today.
one can do that? doesn't it sound scratchy?

anyway...anything can change in this business on a moment's notice. a station could flip to all elvis all the time; or elevator music all the time. i think we should have a format which is environ-mentally friendly. something different. each jock does his/her shift completly different.

now there's something new.

Recycling and/or re-editing old phone bits has been going on for years and not just at Cox stations.... In my opinion...Its no different than television using stock video footage when they need a photo of a particular celeb or event.

True enough, Kevin. However, even working off a phone bank, it's important to use more a variety of original calls for your workparts. I don't have a problem with getting mileage out of your phoners, but when I hear parts of a call I made over five years ago (as a favor to a long-since-departed jock who needed a power-'80's request, back when The Point was shiny and new), I have to wonder about the place where mileage ends and it becomes something else entirely.

I mean, sure, when you see stock footage of 911, those shots of the second plane hitting WTC II are the only shots you're likely to see. It was a once-in-a-lifetime event. Presumably, requests to a radio station occur a little more often. I'm not interested in antagonizing anyone, Kevin, so I'll just leave it at saying I agree with part of what you're saying.

I see your "point"... I didn't know they were recycling from that long ago... after awhile they do need to just go away. The 5 year old phone call is a bit of a stretch.

To be fair, I heard it sometime last year ('06). Don't have any idea what they're doing now; that was pretty much the last time I tuned in. Even Heather couldn't draw me back...I do like Pam, and will tune in once in awhile for her, though, for as long as I can take the format.
