Poker Face

Thats the mix I play at nights and weekends,,, see if the audience can tell a difference, and if they prefer one or the other...... Thats what I did with the Dave Aude mix of Single ladies,,, And the audience actually prefered the remix to the original,, only by a slight 54%....

It is the best mix, but I don't think the radio edit was structured very well. It needs to be tighter in the front.

exactly right; neither single ladies or poker face need anything except the actual version; the era of housing everything up seems to be at an end

LOL Yeah Beyonces's voice is very annoying, but it is-Was a hit, so I had to play it...

As for Just dance,,, the original is perfect for CHR and mainstream dance, but I really liked the Jody mix of just dance too, and i would have played that mix if they hadnt have muted out Colby and Akons Vocals which I believe made just Dance a crossover hit.... Poker Face is ok now, I dont hate it as much as I did, but Ive been sneaking in the Jody mix cause it resembles the original, the Glam as you club mix is too long and too far from the original, but it gets mixshow play... Single ladies will be dropped soon as we are on her latest, which I think is gonna flop, but because its Beyonce, how could I avoid testing it?

Songs that I dont think needed Remixes for dance stations include, Rhianna-Disturbia,,, I think the original was just fine for dance, as was Neyos-Closer, Metro station-Shake it, Chris Brown-Forever- 3 6 mafia-LOLI LOLI pop that body--the original mix without the rap vocals were all fine for dance. Mainstream FM dance need to loosten up on remixing perfectly fitting upbeat songs, and CHR stations need to spice things up by playing some remixes for the OH WoW factor....

This just like Just Dance doesnt need a remix. The original is great and works.

That's exactly how I felt about Kim Sozzi's "Feel Your Love". An extended version, maybe, but definitely no remix. In that case I felt a remix would actually ruin what is a beautiful song.

While Lady Gaga didn't give that same enthusiasm as Kim Sozzi, the originals are indeed good so I'm definitely not knocking 'em.

Well Perry its like this,,, We are a CHR,,, so remixing an already hit isnt always the best way to go, but if its an unknown artisnt, or a dying record we are trying to squeeze more spins out of, Of course im gonna go for the remix,,, same as when Whitney houston put out Its Not Right but its OK, and a few other songs from that album, it wouldnt take a genious to know that the dance versions,,,which were currently thunderpuss mises were the potential Top 40 Dance Cross overs..... Amber is already a Dance artist, so if she got crossed over I would either add the mix that I see fit,, if a radio edit was avalable, and also look at what other stations in bigger markets where spinning. When I became the MD of WBWB I changed out the Ballad version of DHT Listen to your heart, and actually brought this song back into our B rotation... I honestly think, in all honesty aside from working for a cheaper rate, and willing to put in the 16 hr shifts on some days. I think we willing to learn as I go before making big bucks, and my advantage of finding future hits like Serptembers-Cry for you is why I still have a job,,, as well as forcing the 5 o clock road rage to be pure dance and greatly improving ratings on that is why I still have a job, since alot of PDs only lated 2 or 3 months, and im going on 15 months... Not to brag,,, im sure no one speacial in the industry, but I think I have helped dance be more accepted in my market, as well as raised our tsl by not playing so many kiddy tracks... Listen sometime perry..... http://www.wbwb.com/ And Perrry congrats on your new mixes on 1club on the 93.1 The beat channel,.,,,,, I must check them out and ask Russ when they will air...

I must say that I like and have become fully used to the Poker face record, but I still think the stuttering of the words "poker face" was unnecessary, as catchy as it might be. That was pretty much my main problem with the song since the beginning - that stuttering - where I was saying Flo Rida would've sounded better rapping in sections rather than having the stuttering of poker face. The reason I don't like the stuttering effect is because it is a very odd word to stutter, and also I know for people who don't really like it, they will find it irritating, and the last thing we need is to give someone one more reason for why a "techno song" irritates them. Other than that, the song is pretty decent, and as much as I'm glad to see it go as far as it did, I hope it's not one of those records that gets big and seems to be well, then suddenly disappears by July or June or so. I have the strong feeling that it will not last as long as or remain higher than "just dance" for too long on the charts, and if this song did so well, her third single should have absolutely no problem as well. It, too, is a pretty good song.

Some things I always liked about the song were that while using today's elements when it comes to the dance music style, it was still more advanced (towards the dance side of things) than other songs like "disturbia" and "closer", and for it to get the recognition it is receiving in the U.S, is a large benefit to dance music. "Poker face" was obviously something different, and I know people who hear it would notice with no doubt that there's something different about it.

As far as which version I like to play, I always use the Jody Den Broeder mix. The same with disturbia, although the original versions are fine, too...

Anyway, I am way too tired to finish what I was writing and will be asleep before I finish if I continue, so let me wrap this up quick. In an unrelated note (since this is pretty much what reminded me to write this to begin with), I should also add that after hearing Britney's song on the radio again today after not hearing it for some time, I now also like the "If you seek Amy" record. I just don't know what it is about it that makes it seem so child-like... but overall the song is good.

That's why i used her as an example. its the same story with Kim Sozzi. Artists like that will continue to be niche, as opposed to something that everybody can identify with. In my opinion, songs like that are ALREADY remixed in original form...so they don't count.

But that's like saying you prefer an album version of an Amber track as opposed to the handful of remixes that come on her single. Lady Gaga is marketed differently than Sozzi, and the fact that it's uptempo and gets airplay helps out the dance genre. The Sozzi track? not so much.

I had only noted "Feel Your Love" because, to me, it was something unique about that track then what Kim did prior. Can't really describe it per se but it was definitely the "next level" IMHO. Who knows, maybe I would have felt different if Kim Sozzi did have various DJ/producer remixes of "Feel Your Love" to compare it to. But as it is, it's a nice track.

But back to Lady Gaga with "Poker Face", yeah, she's heavily marketed no doubt. I do like her original tracks but for me, the Jody Den Broeder remix does it, with Dave Aude a VERY close second. Does that mean by liking the remixes I knock the original? NO...far from it. But with the way certain remixes have been done to "become their own" it just takes what's a good track as is and catapult it to another level.

The lyrics and entire design behind the arrangement and meaning of the lyrics of this song are incredible. The song was lyrically very well put together, and seems to be perfect now, for its time. However, I still believe we need some successful Neyo and Chris Brown type dance stuff to balance it out. It's still too early to go straight for the electro-pop sound and releases without the soulful dance thrown in. The Baltimore Club Music type stuff helps, too.

I keep thinking that somebody came up with a parody of the song, replacing Poker with an unprintable word.
;-)

Well... I guess now all that there's left to hope for is that this song makes it bigger (or lasts longer) than "hips don't lie" by Shakira. I remember when that used to be a hit.

I like it quite a bit now..

by the way, "Poker Face" is now #1,and "Seek Amy" is a bona fide CHR hit(I took a lot of **** over my predictions for both, so excuse me if crow a bit...)
