Poker Face

I remember February 2008 when I was telling Lady G that she had everything it took to be successful and become the next big thing, but damn, I never thought things were going to be THIS big! I was basing this all mostly on the "Just dance" song I heard, but then summer approached and still nothing was really happening and just when I was beginning to lose hope, BAM!

JUST DANCE BLEW UP LIKE A MOLOTOV COCKTAIL!

I almost couldn't believe it. I never expected it to be like this, ESPECIALLY with Poker Face! Then ON TOP OF THIS, it blows up on RHYTHMIC radio, so it was undeniable! As a matter of fact, when I first heard Flo Rida's "right round", I was like "I don't know..." then I heard Calle Ocho by Pitbull, and I was like "I don't know....". A lot of things were starting to become "I don't know...." for me, but little did I know that times have changed, even more so than I thought, and my style and taste in music was no longer in the minority! I didn't even have time to think about the crookers mix of "day 'n' nite" because I just turned on the radio and BAM! it was right there in my face! I heard some of these things and couldn't believe it. I was still a bit stuck in the mindset that "this might not work because people are not going to accept it". LITTLE DID I KNOW! Times have changed, and THANK GOODNESS for this new generation coming along in a time of transition and change and being open minded enough to let this happen in (U.S.) music! With much of the stuff that's been going on lately, I don't even know what more to say! I wont even get in to the type of stuff that's been beginning to take place here on certain radio stations on the weekends.... All I'll say is that KZON now needs to step it up a bit because they are  no longer in the lead when it comes to uptempo hits in the mix shows on BOTH Sat and Fri nights! My entire weekend, FRIDAY, SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY nights, I have something to look forward to on radio.... (Notice the "AND SUNDAY" there!)

Oh well.... Forget Chris Brown and Neyo.  I guess we've managed to advance past that "weak" sound of dance (although I still believe the Ne-yo song is pretty decent and well done). Every year since 2006, I get excited about certain things I hear and post about it somewhere, only to look back a year later and see how microscopicly small those things I thought were big are, compared to the more advanced and modernized stuff that comes out. Well, at the rate we're going in 2009, who knows what things will be sounding like by this time next year! Chris Brown's "forever" already seems so lite and and old to me now - the SAME song I heard premiered on rhythmic, top 40 AND urban stations and I thought I died and went to heaven. I remember back when I heard three uptempo songs back to back in rotation on a top 40 radio station and I was ready to contact the Guiness Book of world records to make sure they were recording this! I remember back when I heard the radio station do an entire set of uptempo music in the mix and I told everyone I had to take the next Monday and Tuesday off of work because it was so good that it was almost like a holiday to me! I remember back when I heard Akon's "beautiful" make it to radio sounding exactly as it does and I stopped playing the lottery because I felt like I already won. Now, this entire sound in mainstream music has finally once again become the norm...

Well, if this is the way we're doing things in 2009, I just hope other certain artists out there are hearing what's going on, seeing the success of those things, and keeping in mind that they are also free to use those same elements from those other hits to make their own hits. If 2009 is a whole new generation of sound, then

LETS MAKE 2009 A WHOLE NEW GENERATION OF SOUND!

And stop with some of the lazy, watered down, lite stuff that some artists still feel the need to put out. Lady Gaga is already on another level with her stuff. Hopefully people will try to catch up or surpass it, and this will continue to only help to open the doors for other deserving dance artists out there. Look at where we are now, and keep in mind that there's still a whole lot more stuff that's unreleased to come out. I might as well tell all my friends not to send me anymore Christmas and Birthday gifts, because if things continue to keep getting any better in the dance music world, there is nothing that could top that.

THIS YEAR IS GOING TO BE BIG
(And watch how small all these things that seemed so exciting this year will look by next year!) Dance music is continuing to make a come back, and things are changing... This is a huge benefit for all the possibilities of what could happen when it comes to the long run of things in the dance music world.

as time goes by, you'll realize that the thrill of the new only lasts as long as the 'newness' and that, eventually, everything becomes "It's Raining Men";
luv your zest and passion, that and Mr. Santiago's tireless efforts should be enough to keep steering the wheel for a while...

I agree with the fact that eventually it will all pass and get old someday, but as I was almost tempted to mention it, I intentionally left it out (as if I were in denial that it could happen) and went around it by saying "This is a huge benefit for all the possibilities of what could happen when it comes to the long run of things in the dance music world." Notice all the words I threw in there trying to make it seem everlasting....

But yes, despite me trying to extend time and cover the long run of things with a positive outlook possibility, the possibility still exists that it could all pass as a phase and eventually the things to be excited about could someday reach a peak then once again decline from there.. but I wont dwell on it now because we are still in the "things to look forward to" stage. Besides, once this phase passes, it could lead to the next phase being an even deeper- ok, there I go doing it again!

I'll just say this - hopefully this time, we can manage to remain a certain level of consistency on the charts instead of seemingly completely dying out all over again. Other genres have done it, so why can't dance also do it in the U.S.? It doesn't always have to top the charts but can just stick around, even with whatever directions music will go through over time. I'm hoping we'll eventually reach the point where actual pure dance artists have the same exact chances and attention as "pop to dance" or just mainstream pop and r&b artists have and hip hop artists had.

we had heavy,sometimes heated discussions over the causes and effects in the last several years, not a whole lot has changed since that time...
but by all means, fight the good fight(contrary to some opinion, I'm on yours(and Tony's) side...
