Police say KLBK & KAMC TV Tower could collapse

Makes about as much sense as anything else they do.

I don't know the whole story here, but I seriously doubt any LPD officer knows anything about wind loads, ice loads, guy tensioning or anchoring systems to really make a qualified decision. It would have to be something somewhat obvious I think for LPD to care about it. They may be THE police, but NOT the TOWER police.

Is there an anchor coming out of the ground or other visual clue that makes them suspicious it will fall?

And why THAT tower? Every other broadcast stick has ice on it too. Is it because of its age?

Maybe Ramar called it in? Hehehe. I could see them doing something like that.

;D

Last night on 13's 10 pm newscast they said they had to call in a tower service crew that did some work to secure it. Then they were allowed to head back in the building, after doing the earlier newscast from outside. Sounds like it was a pretty serious problem if a tower crew was working on it in the middle of all the ice on a pretty immediate basis. Matt Labhan's twitter page said there was a 50/50 chance it could fall.

That said, I think the police could probably stick to writing speeding tickets.

Yes, last night they did the news outside, across the street at the old Sun Devil car wash. Today, I drove buy and they have two pickup trucks attached to the two guy wires near Homeplate. Each Truck is attached to a wire, and you can see the wires have enough play on them to be pulled in the direction of the trucks.

I heard they had a broken guy line which was whipping around and caused a panic.

KLBK/KAMC sold that tower shortly after the duopoly was finalized, so they've had to lease their own space on it for awhile now.
