I'm certainly not surprised which way country music fans lean, but I am surprised the rock audience is a political toss-up.

In case you didn't read the memo..........
Your thread is likely to cause such discord.

Just A friendly reminder:

David's a moderator. His word is law. But yeah, even if I don't have any say, I'm thinking this thread ought to be in the "Politics on television and radio" cesspool, not here.

I put it in National radio as it involves the music styles that people of different political inclinations like. As such, it is not about politics but about another stratification variable such as age, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, education, income and the like that Nielsen employs.

It's interesting that the folks at Coleman are looking at how the current political polarization of Americans may indeed be an actual and measurable... and maybe actionable... stratification distinction of radio audiences.

We look at stations that appeal to men or women. It looks like that kind of differentiation applies to sociopolitical leanings, too.

And this is not a political "position" thread. It is about how radio formats appeal to different party affiliations.

Those numbers seem about right. Most people that listen to country are on the conservative side. I am interested in how they broke down the rock category. They must not have tested heavy metal or harder rock. I would be interested in seeing the breakdown there.

The study only looks at current music so it is not assessing the opinons of audiences at classic rock, classic hits, adult hits, gold-based AC or classical and jazz. It mentions that it was conducted among those between ages 12-54 (of course 12-17 can't vote) and was done just before the primaries. Biden was not exactly the top candidate among that age group, so if it they were ranking Trump against Bernie Sanders the sample would likely have been higher. They did not include Christian Contemporary music which is also popular with conservatives but they listed Dance/Electronic which is hardly ever heard on the radio unless they collaborate with a pop artist. Although what the "other" category is seems unknown but it ranks slightly higher with conservatives.

Most people know Metallica and Ted Nugent are conservative. I don't know about their listeners.

Nugent yes, don't know about Metallica https://www.billboard.com/articles/...mett-metallica-twitter-donald-trump-interview
