KSWD Hands down, although I must admit they were playing more of a variety when they first started. They sound a lot more like KLOS than I would like. Think maybe they have succumbed to the ratings race and the money that goes with it. With the exception of maybe Jim Ladd, The Sound all the way.

Dude, I miss K-OTTER soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much... :-[ KPIG is good on the Central Coast, but it's not K-OTTER 94.9 - I will be driving up the Central Coast this weekend, I will be listening to KTYD and bringing along a tape of KOTR-FM circa 2000. Joe G
 
I'd pick KSWD over KLOS any day, except in the deserted island scenario, as I fear that something may happen to my radio and the Mormon propaganda on HD-3 would be what I would be stuck with.

So I'll choose nothing.
 
How can anyone think there is a comparison between the two when KSWD plays songs like "Knock Three Times" by Tony Orlando & Dawn, "Drift Away" by Dobie Gray and "I Can See Clearly" by Jimmy Cliff? We heard those and other ??? songs in the past few days on The Sound. Are we supposed to take you guys seriously, Sound? Also we love it over here when they talk about playing "deep cuts" on KSWD and roll some really obscure 'who gives a hoot' song that never even aired on the old KLOS, KMET or Joe Schmo's underground garage radio station. Are you inviting the tune out? Roll those classic hits, baby! Everytime I think The Sound just might be getting it together, they drive me over to KLOS for another hour or two of non-stop. On second thought, why don't you guys just screw up both stations and let our company move in with another format leader? Like we need more Men 18+!

What in the WideWorldOfSports does that even mean?? I remember unique formats like KMPC-FM full spectrum rock; KROQ Rock of the 80s; MARS-FM; FM 101.9 KSCA L.A.'s Finest Rock; Indie 103.1 .... [I arrived in SoCal too late to get into KMET in its heyday]... and I'll add to the list KSWD 100.3 The Sound April 8, 2008 --- August 2008.

Did they REALLY play "Knock Three Times", etc? :eek: Were those songs part of their famous 'Ten@Ten' list?? If so, understandable for a pop station, but impossible to justify for a "rock" radio station!! Just no excuse. KFOG and 107.1 The Peak [WXPK NYC area) do 10@10 programs and I have never heard such schlock played on their 10@10s. Those two stations play songs APPROPRIATE to their format.

That thought has not crossed my mind in about a year........... ::)
 
I wonder why Mediabase failed to pick up Tony Orlando on KSWD in their YTD report.

It did indeed play. I heard it with my own earholes. Yeah, it was definitely out of place to hear on a station that isn't K-Earth but it did fit within the scope of that day's 10@10 (pretty sure it was a 1970's set). My reaction wasn't to go screaming into the streets and brush the sugar sweetness out of my ears though maybe that was the intention. I laughed it off because it was one of those way out of left field moments. A way out of left field moment for KLOS would be to play a Doors song that doesn't appear on the L.A. Woman album.

As usual I will be in the extreme minority opinion here, but the "Knock Three Times" tune was absolutely approriate in the 10 at 10 set and that is what makes the 10 at 10 a great feature. Anyone can pull down the same Boston, Aerosmith, and Police records they usually play from a given year and call it a set. If they did that, no one would even know that it is a specialty show, cause it would sound so much the same as the rest of the day. Specialty shows by definition break the format in at least a limited way. And if there are any 10@10 purists out there, you know Dave Morey populated the 10@10 on KFOG with plenty of pop music that was otherwise not played in the narrow KFOG AAA/Classic Rock Playlist. It is intended to reflect all types of popular music of a given year.

It's BECAUSE of the non-format (sometimes) clunkers that I actually tune into the show. And I'd much rather hear Tony Orlando once in awhile than the Cars every other hour.

10@10 is one of the few things the Sound is doing right.

Hiya John. Good to see you here. or hear =) --- I missed KFOG's 10 @ 10 this morning (running errands on my day off - listening to Sirius 'The Loft' in the car) but now I have my iPhone with radio app, I can also listen to KFOG while driving around LA (along with Radio Paradise) - nice comparison between the three stations' 10 @ 10 - Personally, I prefer KFOG with 1977 (Who can't say no to the late Ian Dury's 'Sex Drugs and Rock n' Roll') ;D Peace - JG
