pool 10 fm

Has anyone up in Northeast Iowa heard these guys on 96.7? They call them selves pool 10 fm, which would indicate that they're somewhere near Guttenberg. I e-mailed them to ask them where they were located, and they replied "we can't tell you". The signal is pretty strong. Their web site is pool10fm.com .

Come on dude, just leave them alone... they're not hurting anyone and they're not hurting your stations. The way i figure it is this: The FCC hasn't had an LPFM filing window in over 5 years for new stations and the frequency isn't being used, so why not let him have it for now. If you're concerned about him stealing listeners with his 'peashooter' signal, then you and the rest of your staff should seriously consider finding ways to improve your overall product.

I agree with Big Johnson. It has nothing to do with them taking any clients or listeners away. It is the fact that Pool is a pirate station. They do not want to pay fees or licences to broadcast. Commercial stations are committed with real dollars and real rules and regulations. It has to do with respect for the rules (dad would be sooo proud of me). Sure, we all would love to "play" radio like Pool, but that isn't how it works. If you want to be a broadcaster, do what is required. Respect those of us who hate to play by the rules, but do it anyway because it is the right and legal thing to do.

Really What does it matter to you Mr. Johnson? It is freedom of speech! Isn't that why we live in the good ol' US of A?! Doesn't this seem a bit childish to you to "report" something that is hurting no one...not even your station? It seems like 5th grade, when you have to taddle tale to the teacher, for something that makes you feel better about what you are doing. Pool10 is not trying to avoid fees to save money. Do you know how much this person spends financial and with time to allow this freedom of speech?! If you can't imagine, just think about how much your electricitiy cost this winter, now add on funding a radio station. Have you ever watched "Pump Up the Volume" with Christian Slater, back in the 80's? Music is a wonderful beautiful thing that brings people together...not apart. There is enough negativity in this world..we really don't need to squabble over something that isn't causing any harm. Your radio station is strong, and Pool10 will have no influence on that at all...

Actually Fred, I don't quite get why you think I was "Taddling" on Pool 10. I have seen discussions on this board in the past about pirate operators, and I've never actually heard one until now. I found the whole thing quite interesting, so I opened up a discussion about it. You and "ISUcyclone2" just assumed that because I started the discussion I had some sort of axe to grind or was worried that he was going to take my listeners or whatever. Nowhere in my original post was there any negativity...just a radio guy talkin about radio.

Again, Big Johnson is correct. He did not tattle. I was the one bringing up the whole Pirate stations are wrong thing. And when you spoke of freedom of speech in your post. I agree 100 %, but that covers editorials and the like. No one was even thinking of going to the FCC. Let them do their own detective work. And electric costs? Real radio stations pay electric, as well as BMI and ASCAP fees, salaries and the like, and for the most part, they do it legally. If Pool 100 wants to "play radio" they are welcome to go through the same thing the rest of the companies do. And in 5 years or so, when the FCC grants them a licence, they can play what they want and say what they want. It has nothing to do with competition ... Broadcasting above the legal limits is wrong. Can't get any simpler than that can it ?

Hello everyone, I have been keeping an eye on this board for awile now and I thought I would add my two cents worth in. As you may or may not know, I to am involved in the wonderful world of radio as free radio broadcaster. Like others here, I do not broadcast out of rebellion to cause trouble for other stations, I simply broadcast to fulfill the lack of diversity on the airwaves and because I have a deep passion for radio. I am also sure that I, as well as others here would be more than happy to go legal, if we only had the chance. Unfortunatly the FCC and the LPFM license situation has been a bit shacky and therfore has been halted as I last recall. Owning a LEGAL station is a dream of mine. Until then we all broadcast out of our hearts and do it for the people within the community. Another thing is that we do not sell advertising so there is no way we are harming in the finacial part of the BIG stations. I personally only use PSA's. For Mr. Johnson and others who are with the stations. I am glad to hear that you are cool with us being on the air, but you have to relise that why we get so offensive when we see postings of a "Pirate" signal being on the air on a major radio industry board. No.1 being that there has been other stations in the past reporting the unidentified signals to the FCC in this nation and that we therefore very protective of our stations. We only ask that you understand where we are coming from and that we are not 'competing' against other radio markets. We are only serving the people within the IMMEDIATE community we reside in to fill the needs we feel that are not being met.. to give the minority a voice and to offer alternative programming like Free speech radio news, democracy now, and other music types you don't here much on regular radio. With much respect to everyone here.. thanks for listening, -- DJ Spike

Well good for you my friend :)All it is is about $$$ anyway.....A pirate goes on the air and the FCC gets mad because THEY ARENT PAYING THEM!!!!!!Its sick!!!!!!!!! No one owns "FREE AIR" .. and with all the crap the FCC has been doing to our analog airwaves lately (IBOC,BPL,etc....) The more pirates the better in my opinion!!
