Oh my goodness... well I SURELY hope that Ke$ha's next single surpasses Tik Tok!

I've been resisting bringing it up, but... I have nothing against Ke$ha as a person, I'm just getting sick of this song. It doesn't help that it's gone international, so as I prepare to go to London I know I still wont escape it.

I do not get how this song got so big, all while Taio Cruz and Cheryl Cole remain unknown.

I still believe there's hope for this decade, musically, but Tik Tok was definitely not a good sign. It's ok to play it every now and then, but there is absolutely NO WAY this is topping the charts today!!! NO WAY! And not to mention the live performances. I love Ke$ha and her creativity, but that song?? It's being overrated.

Actually Taio Cruz IS getting some real play on New York's WXRK as of the past week, and I know it's getting play at other rhythmic stations around the country.

Couldn't have put it any better.
Oh, and thanks for bringing up Taio Cruz and Cheryl Cole - they definitely have some good stuff out right now.

No one's denying the fact that it's a hit with chicks.
KDM stated his personal opinion about the record, and I completely agree with him.
Is it a record that a mass appeal CHR should ignore? Absolutely not. But that doesnt mean that I have to like it.

Ke$ha's a hottie, and I wouldn't mind Tik Tokin her a few times...just as long as her music's not blasting in the background :D

Damn it. Not only can't I escape from tik tok by air travel (due to it's international success), but the girls I date also still fit the demo!!!!

Well....... looking on the bright side, now I have a NEW and ORIGINAL pick up line - that WORKS!

scenario 1
*KDM: "hey, how did Ke$ha's song get so big?"
GIRL: "Well, because........."
KDM: "Ok that's enough- It will never work out between us!!!"

scenario 2
*KDM: "hey, how did Ke$ha's song get so big?"
GIRL: "私はによってなされる最もよい歌の1時であるtik tok のを愛する"
KDM: "sorry, but you said "tik tok", so I think we should stop seeing each other."

scenario 3
*KDM: "hey, how did Ke$ha's song get so big?"
GIRL: "awww thank you! I'm Ke$ha! I'm glad you like tik tok."
KDM:
GIRL: "wait, where are you going? why are you running away??"

scenario 4
*KDM: "hey, how did Ke$ha's song get so big?"
GIRL: "I don't know what you're talking about - What is that?"
KDM: "I think you're my soulmate - I love you"

I would tik tok her a few times myself, if I could gag her and make her not speak.. her voice makes me cringe. the dance beat to the song isnt bad, given a different singer and lyrics it wouldnt be a bad song.. I tried to make myself like this song, i thought it may grow on me,, but I hit scan every time i hear about her brushing her teeth with a bottle of jack... WTF does that mean.

I'm in complete agreement on all points (especially the more suggestive ones ;D )

I guess I'm just wondering when one of these threads will go in the direction of a real radio discussion. They all seem to be about personal opinion, not about the audience. I respect your opinion on records as they relate to your tastes...perhaps I'm the only one who would prefer to talk about actual programming to an actual audience once in a while. :-\

Roger, your opinions are definitely respected as well.
I'm all for the kind of topics that interest you, but it's up to you to try and start some of those threads.

The problem is that this board is so multi-sectional. You have all these different sections, then in addition to that, you have the local market sections where people are of course going to post first if something happens in their city. When you have an outside section labeled with a genre in addition to multiple local market pages, you're bound to get topics that are related to the subject/genre, but not as concrete and to the point as it is within it's own market. The local market sections get the "real info posters". The "sub-sections" get the left overs, unless there is something happening to multiple stations of the same styled format all at once (although, you still get the same type of things you'll get here in local sections - just on a more personal level).

Actually, the problem is that far too few people here think beyond their own borders, and are convinced that their market is vastly different than everyone else's. KDM...Your post, if true, all but proves that. There are trends in the format the extend WAY beyond your market's limits.

These "new music" threads lead people in no particular direction, and yet the "professionals" here always talk personal opinion. Is that how you program your radio stations?

My real fear is that some young CHR PD will come here looking for insight into a record for his station because he doesn't have many resources, and then bases some kind of programming decision on the opinions of a bunch of middle-aged dudes.

I think the point of these threads are for programmers to voice their opinions on whether they'll be adding a record, and others looking for a second opinion. On the other hand you need to take it with a grain of salt

Totally agree. That's what they should be, and are (arguably) what they're supposed to be. But that's not what they are, which was my point (and a point conceded by the others in this thread).

It's one thing to say "I personally hate this record, but totally get why my audience loves it, which is why we'll be playing it." But there are far too many threads with "I can't stand this record," and "I wish this song would just go away." Too much personal opinion, and not enough substance relating to every day programming.

Anyone who hires that CHR PD and lets that happen should be forced to sit in the managers office and listen to tik tok 15 times, after a stern talk. And.... "middle aged"? Geez... I remember when I used to think that was so far away. Now..... look at me!! Oh well.... it is what it is and there's nothing I can do until time travel is possible. I need to get off these boards and do some "crazy" things before I end up looking back saying "middle aged.... I remember those days... and I spent it all on the boards criticizing tik tok and NBC".

Anyway, I doubt that anyone here, well..... actually no I take that back. But... what I was going to say before self-doubting my doubts was that I doubt anyone would come to the boards, see someone criticize a record, then think "hmmm, well this record is charting everywhere, including Canada and Europe, but that guy on the board says it's horrible, so I wont dare play it".
