Pop screen

Can anyone tell me who makes this particular pop screen that Leo Laporte is using on his Heil PR40s in his studio? I found some similar ones, but I have not found ones that are as small in diameter. How are they attached to the microphone or shock mount?

Yes, they are highly specialized devices made in absurdly small quantities, and used only by the most discerning customers. Hence they are expensive.

Is it just me, or do most pop filters seem ridiculously overpriced?

I'd bet some folks with studios not viewed by the public would be willing to do that. Doing a simple online search yielded quite a few DIY solutions.

For the flat round ones maybe. For the slipovers, you need a homogenous open cell foam which doesn't exhibit differing attenuation by frequency. If you're using a directional mic, you need the same attentuation over the ports. The stuff needs to attenuate the same on any axis. Maybe if you found someone with very sclerotic legs and inch - thick nylons.....

In a pinch for outdoor use I had used different colored Nerf balls carved out to fit over the microphone. The colors made it easy for the engineer to identify the mic as long as they note the color for each mixer control.

I didn't notice that much attenuation to voice but it worked quite well to cut the wind noise and "p" pops.
