Porky Chedwick died

What a life! He really was a legend. Very different from Larry Lujack. On many fronts. Yet Larry got more media attention when he died.

Happily, Associated Press picked up one of the Pittsburgh stories and it was carried in a number of papers around the country, at least for their respective web sites. A Googling turned up runs of the AP story in such places as Miami, Fla., Bellingham, Wash., Modesto, Calif., and Denver. Scott Shannon mentioned Porky's passing on his first day at WCBS-FM, and that reference made a New York Daily News story about Shannon's CBS-FM sign-on.

I was walking through the grocery store today, and heard "You're The One" by The Vogues. Recorded in Pittsburgh. Reminded me of Porky, even though he wasn't the first to play it. That honor went to KQV. Still, amazing music and radio heritage in Pittsburgh.
