Wonder if that includes the land?? Considering they have been off the air for over a year and the FCC never ruled on their extension of being dark, I wonder.......

50K?? Was not worth it......I dont know the buyers...does anyone else know anything about them??

50k are you kidding me theirs no way any radio station with a license could only be worth 50k

Hmmm lets see, a 500watt transmitter....and a shot up xmtr building...towers on the ground, fines from FCC and FAA coming for no tower lights in years, no tower registration EVER, no loop monitoring of the phase currents and amplitudes (as required), no studio, no EAS records (never heard one sent or relayed)......Fines, etc will be equal to $25k...or more...to rebuild it back to the way it WAS will take 10-20K....like I said, it AINT worth 50K....and an admitted poor public file (AKA: There was NONE until they were told by the attorneys filing for the renewal they had to have one!) & not for a 500watt daytime/63 watts at night with no interference protection.....and no signal into Beaumont which is the dominant city in the market...I'd give them $10K for the license and usuable equipment, they can keep the land......

A wise radio station broker once told me that there are some radio stations you wouldn't want to buy even if the owner PAID YOU to take it off their hands.

1150-AM is one of those stations.

1. As CW points out, a huge amount of technical problems that will be expensive to fix.

2. The FCC troubles.

3. Even assuming you could get everything ship-shape and up and running (to the tune of at least $ 50,000 MORE dollars), how will you make any ad revenue to keep it afloat?

AM in the Golden Triangle has very few listeners (except for KLVI) and I can't see how a 500 watter
would have a snowball's chance in h___.

What format? How many dollars will it take to pay for a promotional campaign to even get people to sample it?

I remember when 1150 actually had listeners as KPNG (MOR, then Country), then KSUZ (Easy Listening) -- but those days are long gone.

Agreed! I worked at it when it was KSUZ (Les Ledet naming it for his daughter Suzette)......it had listeners and commercials.....and was daytime only at the time; in fact, the new xmtr site came on the air while I was DJing...Steve Sandlin, the CE, called me at the studio and had me switch off the local xmtr, which was running into an inverted L wire antenna outside as he switched on the new 2 tower site...WOW! The coverage was much better (well, considering the L had NO ground plane to speak of) but as soon as it signed off, WJBO in Baton Rouge was BLASTING in....and this was the 70s....
Now to be honest, KOGT somehow manages to stay afloat and on the air....so does KOLE (which just got sold for $450K...which I think was too much)..BUT at least its on the air....1150 is not, has not been legal for years and unless this funeral owner guy (this was discussed in the Houston board) doesnt default like he has in the past, he better have money to pay for studio work, STL install, tower erections, etc....and the transmitter building gets shot at and vandalized (well, when you have white trash living down the road who have no respect for anything what do you expect in S Vidor??? ;)
I could think of a way to make it work and pull revenue...(thanks to my contacts, etc in the BPT area)....but I'll never give away the secret....only if I had a shot at owning it...(which I will admit, I wouldnt mind having a shot at it...I do have a AM stereo exciter and monitor looking for a home....and other BC gear in storage but then hell, I would rather try to buy 990 in Beaumont and return it to its full glory...it as a Class B has a better shot of covering the area and making a profit....(I think I need to send the FCC some pics I took of their office........mail on the floor for 2 weeks...it starts to pile up...at your "Main Studio" :)
