Portable AM/FM with HD Sangean DT-600 HD

Radio World reported in October,Sangean plans to release the DT-800 HD, which would be the first portable to support both AM- and FM-band HD Radio reception.

The article failed to mention the price, but I'm sure this will be on store shelves for $99.00. I won't be rushing out to buy this radio, because you can buy a much better radio for the same money without HD!

I'd get this for half the price...I like my Sangean HDT-1. Seems too much for just a radio and nothing else. If it had recording capabilities for $100, then I'd get it.

Looks likes an Ipod. I wonder if it records and it performs better than the Insignia portable, then a price of $99 might be worth it.

The DT-800 HD also looks suspiciously (exactly) like the mock-up of the DT-600 HD, leading me to believe that they don't even know what it will look like yet. The DT-800 supposedly has a whip antenna while the DT-600 uses your headphone cord as the antenna. It's very unlikely that they would look alike.

The portability of such a unit, if it actually performs well, could make it worth the price for a geek like me to play with. I don't see too many takers - aside from radio geeks - for this model at this price though. Not in the general public at least.

We'll have to wait and see on this one.

If this baby decodes CQuam AM stereo in addition to Analog & HD AM, and has decent variable bandwidth, then I'm onboard!
Geez, why not wish for a green eye 6J5 tuning meter too, while we're wishing for things that'll never happen?

Aren't those neat?? ;) My Grundig-Majestic 1088 table radio has one. And its AM section rocks, unlike the crap produced today. The FM side, of course, is numb.

I have a console RCA 811K with a great new 6G5 tuning eye tube. It's not really portable though and it definitely doesn't receive HD but it does pick up a lot of hisssssssss these past few years.
