iBiquity expects a handful of portable radios and a growing selection of personal navigation devices (PNDs) or fish finders (FFs) to be available this year with HD Radio reception.
Some MP3 players will include an embedded HD receiver, with the antenna built into the headset.
Others will be stand alone AM/FM/HD. Another model will be an HD Radio accessory that attaches to MP3 players. Steve Jobs won’t be happy..
The new chip design will allow extended battery life of four to six hours.
And optional fan is available to keep your radio cool and extends battery life. It doubles
as a personal cooling fan or hair dryer. IBiquity is planning on HD shower radios,
HD personal massage devices and kitchen appliances with HD built in.
President and CEO Bobby Struble was quoted as saying: “iBiquity’s new chip design is wicked good and goody, goody” He added, first we’ll dominate America, then China,
then Russia, Yahoo!” End of quote..
At the time of press, projected price points were not available but an educated guess would be from $99.99 to $299.99
