"Portable IBOC May Be on Its Way"

The new chip uses less than one tenth the power of previous HD designs. It runs on the same kind of batteries (dry cells or rechargables) as any other portable multimedia device ;)

We'll see - TI believes, it is going to be, "very challenging".

We've already SEEN. It's a working prototype, ready to go into production.

OF COURSE THERE WILL BE PORTABLE HD RADIOS! Does anyone think for a second Ibiquity would have invested in technology that couldn't serve EVERY market sector? (YAWN!)

I don't believe, that it is due out, until this Summer/Fall - but, as with all software/hardware projects, they are never on time, and often fail. I was working on a Navy project, at NSA years ago, and our NSA boss evidentually promised some Navy higher-ups that our project would be done on a particular date - well, I found some serious problems, with a low-level module that I was working on (the software design was flawed), and instead of taking the time to rewrite the module, my boss said to just give it to the test team and they will find the problem later. According to TI, I am not holding my breath.

Already been demonstrated as a WORKING prototype. Again YAWN. And I didn't say it would be out summer/fall. I have no such knowledge...only that it WILL BE OUT.

"SiPort expects to formally announce the chip's availability this summer, with mass production by fall, and perhaps the first products based on the device on store shelves for the 2007 holiday buying season."

Yawn... we'll see, if that happens - good luck with reception in portable HD, without dipole and loop antennas.

The real YAWN is no one cares about HD radio (even if it is portable) except broadcasters. Sooner, or later they will all realize that it is a needless expense, with no possible revenue (much less profits), and few listeners. Then it's buzz off!

More than TWO HUNDRED MILLION AMERICANS LISTEN TO TERRESTRIAL RADIO EVERY WEEK! TWO HUNDRED MILLION! The YAWN is the idea that ANY technology is an imminent threat to THAT!

They are listening to analog terrestrial radio, not digital HD radio.

Certainly not the defective HD radio system you are here, promoting.
Now you can go back to bed, "YAWN".

No, the 200 million listen to the STATIONS I'm "promoting here". HD ain't new radio stations, it's an enhancement to the existing ones, which serve HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS. An enhancement...just like internet radio, wi-fi, etc.

I listen to internet radio all the time on my Dell Axim X51v, a superb "pocket radio" in conjunction with my wireless network. What I listen to mostly is terrestrial stations that are too distant for clear reception...like WNCW Spindale NC (88.7...adjacent to the much closer WFDD Winston Salem NC on 88.5...obviously a tough catch), WKSK West Jefferson NC (580AM...they don't even make it to my house at night...but they DO with wi-fi), and Minnesota Public Radio's classical stream. TERRESTRIAL BROADCASTERS, delivered by "other means"...just like HD.
