Portland FM Band

Has anybody thought that Portland FM radio is going to be like New York or LA with all the move-ins. Within the last 5 yeas, Portland has 3-move ins 105.9, 104.1 and 93.1. Plus 97.9 coming soon. The only 2 spot avaliable left for Portland is 96.3 and 102.7.

With the consolidation of ownership having ruined the industry in many ways, anything is possible. When the same owner can downgrade one station in one market, it can create openings for upgrades in other markets. If I'm not mistaken, all of the recent changes in Portland are in that category. For sure 105.9, originally a C2 with "no hope" for an upgrade to C1 was able to achieve that because of common ownership of the stations that would be interfered with. All they have to do is sign on to a waiver of the separation rules and they are in. What a joke.

105.9 had a CP early on for a C1 upgrade on Mt Scott. They later amended it to C2 from their present site.

"Early on" was immediately following Clear Channel's acquisitions of stations that would otherwise prevent this upgrade.
At the time of the 105.9 grant, C1 could not be achieved without waiver or power adjustment from these stations which at
that time were not owned by Clear Channel. Just another example of how Clear Channel and other large broadcast conglomerates operate.
