Portland Spring Book

i wouldn't say francis/frances is looking for all of his/her listeners... half, maybe, but not ALL. it was foretold by many that after the initial "breath of fresh air" blast that we would see a balancing of the listener estimates.

still - some oddities that don't seem to reflect what we all hear, day to day, which in 7 books out of ten, seems to reflect the numbers.

good for Coast. a sigh of relief for the gang at the Blimp (i can't recall a "piling on," of one station by so many others, that appears to have fallen flat). good for herb. good for randi. good for radio.

and how about that Q crew!!! numero uno 12+ and other demos, too.

in reading the demo breakdowns - it looks like everyone has a little something to crow about - especially bob bitner's billion-gigawat giant up there on berry's mill road! (numbers on BOTH sides of the decimal!!!) i know bob doesn't worry about such things - but still, good for him, too. he does what he loves because he can. the rest of us do what we love because it beats many alternatives. someday when we grow up, we, too, can be like bob. :) (which means we can afford to work for peanuts - i think.)

you may all return to your normal broadcasting operations... for another 6 months, or so.

Wow, what an embarassing book for Frank.

My congratulations and over all gratitude to the WBLM staff for hanging in there, it was only a matter of time before the novelty wore off (let's face it, people only listened to Frank because of its admittedly catchy branding.)

Kudos to the Captain and Celeste who continue to do the best morning show in Northern New England. Rock on, Tommy C.

Who gets the guillotine first at "Francois"? Will the Bill Fox Morning Show be put to sleep? Will Chrissy be serving her next classic cafe fare at that little diner in the time and temp? If there is a god, Professor Leif's class will be dismissed.

Oh, and isn't that cute, The Bone tied with a flea powered AM station from Bath.

There's always mail-room jobs at Unum Provident, gang. I suggest you polish up those resumes pronto.

Everything is getting back to the way it should be once again in Portland radio. Thank you for your efforts, blimpsters!

Not sure what you mean by "back to the way it should be". One book does not mean a trend. The blimp is yesterday's hero...they'll need more than one good book to turn that zeppelin around.

:-\ i dunno ... maybe it's just me. i really can't get into the ratings without 'argytunes' here to provide commentary.

it's just not the same.

i need some argytron numbers.

several months later, is he still trying to figure out how to log in to the new system?

You would think the man who invented radio would at least know how to get a new password. But then again, I don't think he was in radio recently enough to use computers.

But I'd bet he'd have advice on how to get Frank back on track.

Holy smoke-stack Nassau!!! My Big girlfriend at cc told me today it was a big shocker up in the Portland area. And the princess of programming has got be wonderin' what happened there! Must be Frank was more focused on trackin' 23 different stations round new england, and not payin' attention to the details...All the while Citadel and Saga gettin' ready to take back their beloved market. Good for them!!! It's like the days up here on the farm in Sharon. Sometimes you think you've busted the crop, then it grows back better than ever! You just need to let the natural-fertilizer (in this case Frank) settle back down into the soil. Before you know it, you're off to the 4-H show with a prize blue ribbon...and let me tell you --them some juicy apples, and Norma-Jean knows it!...She's just gotta keep the cooler fresh for her man. Speakin' of the fair boys, just about that time again...hot dog!

Ms. Mary ;)

;)

argytunes would like to thank spankenstein for his words of support.

I think the reason THE BLIMP did as well as it did was because its music and on air staff were consistant. Nothing was promised that couldn't be delivered! As stupid as it sounds...when a listener knows what he (or she) is getting...the loyalty factor automatically kicks in!

It's nice to be back on the board....

This response is for underminer (and anybody else looking for his shoulder)...

The way to get FRANK FM some better numbers is to eliminate the "canned liners" and do a minor music upgrade. The reason WBLM got better 'numbers' was there was still a "personality" factor present...and not "SHOTGUN SAM" reading a batch of cue cards!

There's a big difference between an air personality who relates to his listeners as opposed to the 'same old liner card readers!' This applies to EVERY FORMAT. Do 'program and station managers and salespeople (who work for ANY radio station in Northern New England) actually think their listeners BELIEVE everything that's 'spewing out of their radio speakers?'

If any of 'em do...maybe a 'refresher course' in Radio Audience should be offered by USM, UNE or a school that has a realistic 'handle' on radio station-to radio listener communications?

I figure Frank could get better numbers by going commercial free and jockless for three months....and spending $300k on a schedule for a single :30 TV spot.
