Possible Clear Channel Buyer?

sirlaughsalot said:
I don't know the veracity of this blog, but it involves Mitt Romney's company purchasing Clear Channel. He already owns Staples.

Clear Channel was just sold for about 100 or more times what Romney's personal fortune is worth. This is not just an unconfirmed rumor, it is almost a joke.

It's no joke. The sale of some of the company's smaller market stations continues. The Mays family wants to take the company private, and the company bankrolling the effort is Bain Capital, a company founded by Mitt Romney and a higher up in the John Birch Society years ago. So his company is the one trying to buy Clear Channel.

The company has already been sold to a group lead by Bain Capital Partners and Thomas Lee Partners. A closing is pending regulatory control.

While Bain was founded 23 years ago by Romney and two other partners, using funds from a Salvadoran investor, at present it appears that Romney has no shares in Bain, although he receives a retirement pension and has investments in several Bain sponsored funds.

Bain is not "His" company... he does not own it, and while an investor, never did.

Way to go, DavidEduardo...Screw up a perfectly good tinfoil-hat-wearing paranoid conspiracy with the facts.

It's much more fun to think that Mitt Romney, Presidential candidate, is the annointed one of ClearChannel right wing talk show hosts all over the country, who will get their talking points from Bain Capital writers.

You're no fun at all.

Yeah, I'm a regular party pooper. Then someone will bring up "Clear Channel's failure in Minot" and I will have to spoil that party, too. And I don't even like Clear Channel or its way of operating!

Ciao. I have to run to the 7-11 for more aluminum foil to keep the hats coming.

Real secret: you know they tore down Los Arcos Mall because it was radioactive following an alien spacecraft landing on the roof? Even less known is that the aliens actually were trying to land in the lot of the Burger King across the road on Hayden, showing that they should have bought a GPS device at Radio Shack first.

He still has financial ties to the company that he founded that has earned him millions. Fact is that Bain earns a share of Clear Channel's profits and that Mitt Romney, while a retired partner, still earns money from the private equity firm. Coupled with the fact that Bonneville is LDS owned, I would say that it is a favorable media perch for Mr. Romney. It would be naive to think that there's no favortism going to be played unless he parted on very unfriendly terms, which doesn't appear to be so.

But it really isn't any different that the current Republican (and Democrat, just as bad, to be fair) culture of corruption, where there isn't even a need for a revolving door anymore… …firms Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc.… profit immensely and they've seen their accounts grow exponentially while they are even serving in government…

Los Arcos is on Scottsdale Road, not Hayden.

And the Burger King in question is on McDowell, not Hayden.

But we thought the Old Gringo knew everything!

The Nurse and I still think Sheriff Joe's request to use the Los Arcos site in Scottsdale as another Tent City was the most creative. The Pink Taco could have catered lunch for TMPU (the men in pink underwear) ::) ;D ::)

Right, it was between Scottsdale and Hayden on McDowell. Since I had to exit to Hayden from my home on E Wilshire, somehow Hayden stuck in my mind. Similarly, Los Arcos was on McDowell between Hayden and Scottsdale... there was that pesky park south of the golf course in the middle.

Going way off the topic...
For those who want to relive the era (I think Los Arcos was built around 1970), in 1973 I bought an 1600 sq ft townhome on the lake at Wilshire for $37 k. I wonder what it is worth today!

Isn't that land owned by ASU now?

Yes, but Joe still owns the pink underwear. ;D

250-280k for a Continental Villas townhouse of comparable square footage. However the CCR's specify the owner must drive a Buick, own a white poodle, and refrain from placing plastic famingos in the front yard!

....and now back to bashing Clear Channel :D

- What do flamingos put in their front yards?

- Plastic Sun City retirees.

I just remember the funky cinema there that was underground. As a single screen, it was nice, then they made it 2 screens.

They closed it and covered it up for a few years before they shut down the mall.

But, I was always more of a Thomas Mall kind of guy....

The Nurse and I used to shop the Bayless at Tower Plaza....maybe all that RF is why we're so fixated on KT'R ??? ::)

Shouldn't that be "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party"?
(The flip side of "Eight Days A Week.")

(cough) Minot. (cough)

Back to you, David. ;)
