Now that election excitement has dwindled and the last Arbitron quarterly release was uneventful, there is a little wiggle room in the ratings race, if only for the newstalk format.
The 3.8 share that Talk1300 and WROW have been splitting (is it really WORTH splitting?) is a small piece of pie at best. WROW has been strong guests-and-topicswise in the 4 to 6pm M-F slot. Could this newfound strength enable 590 to shave a few points off WGY and the anti-Obama Sean Hannity? And once shaved, would WGY encounter difficulty regaining those listeners?
Downside: last Friday afternoon WROW seemed to have added a touch of very annoying reverb. It could have been a result of the broadcast environment. And the local Talk1300 hosts have been too hot on the pot. The voices are distorted, especially in morning drive.
