The Las Vegas Review-Journal is reporting that the Economic Opportunity Board (EOB) is strapped for cash and in order to survive may have to sell KCEP otherwise known as Power 88.
KCEP has been a part of Las Vegas for over 30 years. It's the only station that attempts to satisfy all of the needs of the African-American community. It plays Old School, Today's R&B, Hip-Hop, Gospel on Sundays, plus public affairs programming. If this station has to be sold, it will devistate the community if the new owners don't keep the present format.
KCEP survived V108, Kiss 103.5 (before it became spanish), and Wild 102. Now, it may not survive because of the way the owner has run the organization.
Any ideas as whether another company would attempt to put in an Urban, Urban AC, or even an gospel station? You're talking over 100,000 potential listeners (that's based on their advertising for underwriting the station I hear on the air).
Any thoughts from the experts on this issue?
