Possible scenarios that could happen?... to improve Boston radio broadcasting?

What are the possible scenarios that could happen?... to improve Boston radio broadcasting? There are a few good radio stations! What are possible scenarios that could draw folks who don't listen to radio?

In general, the FCC should have expanded FM above 108 with the conversion to digital television, and converted over AMs to FMs. AM could have been reused or limited to clear channel stations.

How about "below" FM where mostly vacant channels 5 and 6 are. "Above" FM is aircraft.

Three questions:

1. What makes Boston different than any other market when it comes to "improving radio broadcasting"?
2. What needs improving? Who says it needs improving? Take the top five billing stations in any market and/or the top 5 rated stations (if they aren't one in the same) and I am pretty sure they'll say they're doing just fine.
3. If people "aren't listening" to what's on the air now, what's the theory behind expanding the band? So there will be more stations for fewer people who (reportedly) aren't listening?

Odd that you should post this, Smoke, as I had very similar thoughts yesterday. I must have picked up your brain waves through my radio! ;D

108-118 MHz is the aircraft navigation band, and has been for decades. This is a worldwide allocation, and those frequencies will NEVER be allocated to anything else.

WERS could be less robotic/predictable with their playlists/schule. i guess it's used as training for becoming a big crappy station like the ones on top of the Pru though

I think WBZ would be smart to have a true WBZ-AM and WBZ-FM (I know the Sports Hub is offically that right now). WBZ-AM could be more news and information with WBZ-FM focusing on Talk, maybe utilizing Jon Keller, Dan Rae, and other more non-confrontational type hosts. Right now may not be the right timing but I could see something like this in 3 to 5 years.
