Post-Stern: Roth & Carolla

For the sake of this post, let's assume David Lee Roth does take over mornings on WXRK after Stern's departure, while Adam Carolla entertains the LA and San Diego markets.

Assuming this is true, why wouldn't Infinity feel Carolla could work in NYC as well? Is his style not suited for the east coast? After all, he did have national exposure on MTV and FX network. And likewise, I have a hard time understanding how a born-and-bred southern California guy (Roth) with a persona that much better fits LA, would connect with a New York audience who might see him as an imposter.

While he does have some familiarity and appeal to New Yorkers, he has much greater appeal to the West Coast. I think there are a few things at work here:

1) A Carolla show from New York could not be aired live on the west coast. That would put Carolla at a disadvantage against established west coast shows. With Stern that wasn't a problem, but Carolla is more or less untested as a morning host.

2) Infinity doesn't want to put all of its eggs in one basket. They're assuming some of the Stern replacements will fail, while some will take off and be syndicated to other markets.

3) Carolla may not want to move to the east coast.

Here in LA, the humor is just different from youze guyz on the Right Coast. Forgive me if I believe that a split host situation can and probably will work better than a single host nationwide approach.

Adam is one of my West Coast homies and gets the groove on for SoCal. When I worked on the East Coast I found the humor to be radically different from my home turf. Why not go with your strengths?

Corolla would not work in NYc, or on the east coast for that matter. He is not a big name or a big deal even on the west coast. Loveline outside of La is a non entity on virtually every station, it gets shuffled from station to station in most markets outside of LA, this really is Corolla's only claim to fame. The man show was something of a sleeper, not so much a hit but a cult fave of some. I happen to think Corolla is failry funny but that doesnt mean that he'll work as a morning show host anywhere outsid eof LA.

as long as there not gonna get some stupid radio dj from the south, for example bubba th love sponge (radio 104.1 wmrq) that killed rock radio competition in the harford market.. I might listen
and secondmore, isn't this planned to happen on the 1st of september? I have heard rumers thats when therock wccc 106.9 in ct (ct howard station) is gonna start streaming live online... is that a hint of something to come?

Howard Stern is blowin smoke up your ass. Roth is not going to be Stern's replacement in New York. Roth is considered a living parody of himself.

Living parody of himself? possibly but I do not see Howard syaing "yes I know it is a done deal" for no reason.
