Post your first Demo/Aircheck

I realize that I am probably the only person who is stupid enough to do this. But since I found it, I am going to set myself up for ridicule and post it. This is the tape that I sent in to get my first radio job. I mailed this thing to WSAR in 1987 and after hearing it they were wacked out enough to hire me.

Anyone else here brave enough or dumb enough to post your first aircheck? They would be fun to listen to. I'll start. Click the link below and then start emailing your friends about how much I suck. You'll be absolutely 100 percent correct. I sure did! ;D

I wouldn't have hired you simply because you thought by 1987 Wang Chung recorded the best song ever put on vinyl.

Seriously though, for the 80's your average demo from someone with no experience probably did sound like that. Forced, announcey, trying a little too hard to inject personality. Nowadays it's different because radio styles have changed and newbies aren't trying to emulate the same kind of sound. Also by the time someone is applying for his first gig he may have had college or interning experience. Unfortunately also nowadays people are putting more weight of computer skills instead of putting their money where their mouths are. That comes across with those looking for work and it also comes across on the air with both jock work and production. And, no you're not getting any aircheck from me.

I wouldn't have blamed you one bit. A scary statement when I listen back to it today. I almost want to burn the tape. When I worked there I somehow got hold of a composite of airchecks that people had sent the station. Holy crap, they are pretty bad. It even makes me sound like Casey Kasem. I would love to post them here... But that would just be WRONG. Wouldn't it? LOL
