Stick is about three miles from my house. COL is Woodstock, but the stick is actually closer to Crystal Lake. Woodstock is about five miles to the northwest of where the transmitter site is. It's just off of U.S. Highway 14 and uses a tower which was one of three used by the now-defunct (WIVS/WAIT AM 850), for which the COL was Crystal Lake.

On 7/17 I was able to beat 98.7 KTXN at 1545 miles with 96.1 KBTQ at 1597 Miles.
I also had 94.5 KFRQ with a Q94.5 ID at a similar distance.
Given the weird distances for both I have no idea if it was single or multihop. Given the distance i'm thinking it was multihop.
Also during that time Roswell to West Texas with stations I've re-logged countless times.

I've been hearing a very weak signal on 800 the past few early mornings (around 4:00am CDT). Classic country. I haven't been able to ID it, but everything fits WVAL from Sauk Rapids, MN....about 50 miles northweswt of the Twin Cities. CKLW has been weaker than usual, and I'm able to null it completely to hear the other signal. Normally, WVAL is absent at my location, but a few years ago they went through a stretch where they were in with a fairly decent signal for about 2-3 weeks. Apparently either on day power or some sort of STA. WVAL is authorized at 2,6 kw day and 850 watts night. Both directional. Day pattern very favorable in my direction. Night pattern, with a mild null toward CKLW, not so much. The station is triplexed with WXYG (540) and WBHR (660). Both of these have pretty good daytime signals, but I've never heard either one of them here.
As for WVAL. what I'm hearing these past few mornings is not as strong as what I heard a few years back, so I really don't know what's going on. If anything. But for the most part, they've been missing entirely lately at my location. So perhaps there is something afoot, after all. And if so, perhaps a new catch opportunity for some of you guys.

Lately I've been mostly DXing the HF ham bands, mainly 20 Meters, after a several year break. I've heard several stations from Europe, mainly in the CW section of the 20 Meter band. Not much on the other bands. I usually don't listen to 80 Meters unless it's winter. 40 Meters has been iffy, although I've heard the "K" CW channel marker beacon on 7039 Khz, a small beacon located in Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky, in Kamchatka in Russia.

WSVS, Crewe, VA has been heard several times in the past two years playing country music. Most likely on their daytime power. Might be another possibility.
Thanks for the info. I think WSVS could be a possibility. Especially at 10kw. Although at 10kw ND day power I might expect it to be stronger than what I've been hearing. 250 watt night power certainly not impossible. I'll keep checking 800 periodically to see if I can unravel the mystery. I was going to spend time on 800 again before sunrise this morning....but fell back asleep! LOL
Update: Conditions were much better this morning, and at 4:15am CDT, the mystery country music station I'd been chasing on 800 finally broke through with a positive ID. As I had first suspected, it turned out to be WVAL from Sauk Rapids, MN. CKLW was also stronger than it had been for the past week or so, but I was still easily able to null it..
I'm guessing that whatever is happening lately with WVAL won't be going on for very long So now is probably your chance to see if you can snag it, if you haven't already!

For at least the last hour, there has been E-skip with MUF of 100-130mhz centered around Oklahoma as shown on the DXmaps map.

I did try for WVAL two days ago, but the only country music station I got was WSVS Crewe, VA with a dual AM 800 and FM 97.1 ID.
Did some daytime tuning on AM today and noticed WAKE on 1500 kHz with a relay of WGTO 97.1 FM playing classic hits. Only ID at TOH was for the FM. Not sure if they reactivated the Valparaiso, IN site, or switched to the COL Hobart, IN with their CP that would move them to the old WLTH nighttime site. The have been on STA for the past couple years, which was expiring in mid-July, so they might have just turned the AM back on as not to forfeit the license.

Bad timing for me. Just saw this, tuned to 1500 only to get KSTP on critical hours skip.
I'm out of range for WAKE. 1500 around here is WPJX from Zion. IL with a weak signal. What's left of KSTP owns 1500 here at night.
August 6: at 8:21 pm central time, I was driving north on I-35w near Cleburne, Texas (south of Fort Worth).
I stumbled across a station on 89.9fm playing Lizzo's latest hit. My radio decoded the RDS and it said it was KMOJ-FM from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I would normally think this was an eskip reception due to sunspots, but the time of day would seem to make that less likely. Maybe someone here can clarify what would allow that kind of skip. (maybe atmospheric ducting of some kind?)
I also heard a top 40 station on 100.7 with the calls WO--. Couldn't hear the last two letters. Radio-locator suggests this was WOBE in Crystal Falls, Michigan. I just never got RDS to decode on that one and didn't hear the calls again before it faded away.
