Was he at home, or at the cabin? Those guys in Scandinavia have some envious "getaway" spots.
If you go online and check out Bjarne's website, you can see he lives in a decent house that's near the cape, and from that house he has some beverages strung in various directions. He actually lives in Kongsfjord.

It's not like the Lemmenjoki (and other) DX cabins which are more remote, DX radio club affairs.

Thanks to a format change (alas, entire staff was canned) and tip at the BCBDX message board, caught 50 kw CKST 1040 Vancouver at 1:11 a.m. CT Wednesday, under WHO. Matched to SDR near Vancouver.

Switch was from sports talk to rock on interim basis, all-comedy expected Friday.

My second station heard in SW suburbs of Chicago.
Vancouver was a frequent business destination for me in the early 2000s. No shortage of big signal signals up there, CKST being one of them. About a half dozen Seattle signals are audible in the Vancouver metro 24/7 as well from about 125 miles away.

Interesting that CKST is flipping to comedy. They had the local sports market pretty much all to themselves until CISL (650) switched from Oldies several years ago. CISL has a good signal, but CKST is, if anything, better. Yet apparently CISL wins the battle. It probably doesn't help matters that at least three Seattle sports signals (710, 950, and 1090) probably combine to siphon off some of the sports audience.

WHAS OFF THE AIR AS OF THIS MOMENT...
Hopefully someone can get something new.

Oops. Actually, the second time I've gotten CKST, not the second station from Vancouver. Remind me to put my glasses on when reading my log.

It seems like those two Cubans were noted by multiple DXers the last time WHAS was off as well.

Vancouver also had CFTE 1410, I think they were known as "the Team". I haven't logged them in a while, not sure if they still run any sports in addition to the business stuff they run now. According the the Wiki they've been Bloomberg since 2018.

Comedy seems to have had a good run in Calgary on 1060 since I think 2013. Maybe the company thinks it will do OK in Vancouver as well.

Heard CBK 540 at near local levels (here in the Seattle area). It's about the fifth or sixth time that's happened during my somewhat infrequent DXing lately. For a few years CBK was mostly MIA. In the 1990s and early 2000s I sometimes tuned it in mornings at work -- that's how dependable it was back thn.

But it appears that DX seasons are improving. Behind CBK is what sounds like female chatter, with male talk interspersed, fluttery and unreadable. The bearing varies a bit, from NNE-SSW to more of a California bearing (which also varies here, due to local magnetic anomalies). I'm guessing it's XESURF.

Last couple nights I fired up my trusty Panasonic RF-B45, probably my best overall MW receiver, for portability, performance, and sound. If the PR-D5 had the sound that the Panasonic has it would probably ace it. My Superadios are great.... but sometimes when DXing I prefer the digital tuning. If I am taking my time analog is fine, though... you just count the channels....
I did more tuning around the band early this a.m., on my DX-398 with aid of a loop. The YL chatter I heard earlier a couple weeks ago under CBK wasn't XESURF, it was some local TIS that has some chatter that sounds like a female voice on a tape that's running too fast. Maybe Burien, WA? Can't tell.

Didn't hear much else of note. Some TISs on 1650 that are local and re-logs. The religious station in Redding (KVIP) was audible on 540 -- that's a rare catch here, actually.

Burien is on 540 and isn't Sammamish still operating a TIS there as well?

^^^^^ Yeah, I think so. I've logged the Sammamish one a few years ago. Burien maybe 5 years ago. I don't hear them that often. Usually CBK or static, and twice hearing Redding. Once or twice long ago hearing XESURF in Spanish.

Out here it's usually Saskatchewan on 540, sometimes even in the day (in winter). KVIP makes it at sunset, with XESURF and rarely XEWA making it at night w/ CBK. A while back I heard XETX in Chihuahua. Sometimes KYAH Delta UT mixes with a fading CBK near sunrise. I would love to hear KWMT and their Classic Country format, but even when they leave day power on at night they are never there...

Driving and parked in Bear Creek Township, Emmet County, MI.

Around 5:20 PM EST

WGRB 1390
WBGX 1570
WCGO 1590
WVON 1690

At 6:15 PM EST

WTCM 580 reduces power from 50 kW to 1.1 kW. WILL 580 can be clearly heard in the background. At around 6:20 PM EST, WILL reduced power from 5 kW to 0.1 kW. WTCM continues to be heard weakly, but much clearer than with WILL at full power.

In Chicago I just heard CHKT 1430 in Toronto, broadcasting in Chinese, but I was able to verify it using an Ontario WebSDR. With this, I have now heard all of the Toronto area 50 KW stations. This one was pretty hard for me to get due to their unfavorable pattern in my direction.

Nice catches

New user here (Hi!).

Been a few days back (February 4, 21:15) but picked up WCKA AM 810 in Jacksonville, Alabama from my location west of Orlando, Florida. Signal was loud and clear, almost no fading. Positive station ID. Straight line distance is 462 miles. They're supposedly running 500W at night. Radio is my Zenith Deluxe Royal 755 LG using built-in ferrite antenna.
