My best AM log ever: 7ZR 936kHz Hobart, Tasmania 8000 miles/13,000km away from McGrath, Alaska. 10KW/2 tower pattern, protecting a 936kHz in New Zealand. It's the only "ABC Local Radio" formatted station in the entire country on 936kHz.

Heard on Wednesday March 24th. In my first clip, there's no mistaking those time pips and ornamental monumental Top Of
Hour fanfare for anyone else. 1400UTC/6AM AK time audio: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rmVXYj6tmkDfSqmXxg9NdcOGYOTMeDAG/view?usp=sharing

6 minutes later at 1406UTC/606AM AK Time, you hear a lady begin with the weather mentioning a flood warning and a river
and at 24 seconds you hear Laura Beavis say, "ABC Radio Hobart" just to confirm if there was any doubt what I heard(and there was no doubt. Audio:

Your in Alaska now?

When I lived in Perth, 7ZR was the most reliable Tasmanian station I could receive and the only Aussie I heard on 936. The ABC Newsradio from Brisbane would have the same fanfare, but I never heard it from Perth.

Both links in your post are the same, but if you heard the "ABC Radio Hobart", it's definitely 7ZR. Congratulations! That's quite a catch.

Well, I had a little issue with google yesterday, probably operator error. But here's the right clip:

"I hear a female start reading a weather forecast, talking about a flood warning, mentioning coastal waters and a river. At 22 seconds into this recording, she says "Low of 15, top of 21... ABC Radio Hobart""

I hear it too, definitely ABC Hobart. She also mentions Hobart during the weather forecast. Amazing catch, congratulations!

Here is my LIVE interview TODAY (Mon Mar 29th) with ABC Radio Hobart Tasmania, Australia at 1840UTC as we talked about my reception of 7ZR 936khz and life in Alaska/my job. And YES, this was LIVE.. no recording.. everything went well! Audio: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1phnNV_jCk2T6e-sJQmImoXPzC2qr0wYd/view?usp=sharing
That was great Paul.

ABC Local Radio is like the old "full service" stations here in the US. I used to listen to the Perth version when I got up at 0530 to go to work, a mix of interesting talk and music (mostly pre-1970 oldies). In the evenings it's all talk shows, but not the political talk that we get nowadays.

I was hearing classic rock on 900 this morning at about 5:30am CDT. The signal was weak, but no trace of CHML. I never was able to catch an ID, but I'm presuming WATK in Antigo, WI. 250 watts day/195 watts non-directional. Assuming that this is what I was hearing, distance is 204 miles north of me.

Your interview is now on the ABC Hobart website

Happened to scroll across 790 and was surprised to hear WAXY South Miami (sports) with a promo stating their call sign. 5 kw directional east over the Atlantic with a minor lobe westward. They were there for about 30 seconds before KBME Houston started covering them.

One new and one unidentified last night. At 7:06 PM CDT I heard KWHK Winona, Minnesota with ABC news, weather forecast, mention of Frickson Family Farm and "AM 1380, 101.5" slogan. Country music followed.

At midnight WLW 700 went off the air for maintenance. I stayed up hoping to hear something new, but for most of the time nothing was coming in. Around 12:52 AM a station faded in playing Carlos Santana song, followed by Devo's Whip It. Spanish language talk by man in between the songs, but the signal was too weak. Station faded out by 12:56. Suspect it was Colombia. Could not get a stream going to verify it was them until 1:05 AM. At that time they were playing a Bruce Springsteen song, but I had no signal on the radio to compare.

Maybe XEDKR? They appear to have a classic rock format.

I think XEDKR is very likely. They have two formats/brands - La Octava, which is news/talk, and the aforementioned Universal. The latter plays classic pop/rock like you described.

Colombia would be a good bet...they do play English language music "even Disco Nights on weekends". I've caught them on 690, 700 and elsewhere on the Bonaire SDR
The Northeast part of South America is not widely heard in the SW US... When DXing in the far less dial-crowded 70's from Phoenix with loops and an R-390A receiver, I only got a couple over a 4 year period. And from Ecuador, which for obvious reasons was a deep core target of mine, I only had 3 back when they had stations on "split" frequencies like 805 and the like.

I did DX tests from Quito on 565 and 805 kHz and heard from all over the East Coast and Midwest of the US as well as NZ and Australia. But never from the western part of the US.

Colombia is SSE of Nashville, with a mostly ocean path. From AZ or CA, it is SE over all of Mexico and much of Central America. Most points in Colombia are more than 1000 miles farther from CA than from Nashville.
