Major surprise at a little before 4pm CDT this afternoon (2100 GMT). 3 hours before sunset. Fair signal from WRRD Waukesha, WI. 23kw from 53 miles north of me. But I'm directly in a very deep null, and I've never heard it here before. Not ever. Signal was fair, but all alone. No trace of the Joliet, IL 1510....or for that matter WLAC.
My guess is an STA....perhaps 5.75kw ND, which would be about right for the strength of signal I was hearing. Maybe you guys who think you might be within range would want to check this out. Format is progressive talk. WRRD is a daytimer that's supposed to also drop to 20kw (same pattern) during critical hours.
Happy hunting!
Nice catch there. It's funny, that's one of the stations I've been trying to catch, and I happened to be listening on that frequency around that time in my usual Chicago commute. Usually it'll be WWHN cranking out the gospel tunes, but a right-wing talk show came in briefly before fading out and I didn't get an ID. Every other time that's happened and I got a station ID it was WLAC. I remember thinking it was pretty early to be picking up Nashville in mid-March, so maybe it was WRRD this time. I'll try again tomorrow and also be aware of what program will be on to help ID it.
Interestingly in Madison on 1580 AM they have a sister station WTTN and that too is on the edge of my listening range. During the daytime if I'm away from the lakeshore I can barely make out similar talk show programming, but haven't gotten an ID yet for that one either.
