The first good target for the Middle East on ArcticSDR is the Iranian jammer on 1575. Last time I checked they were S9+20 around 1700z. I haven't really tried for the Middle East, but Egypt has a big 864khz transmitter that airs Koran readings and other programming. China National Radio's first channel can be heard on 756khz with many echos, along with 639, 945, 1377 and 1593 to parallel. Try for Japanese on 567 (JOIK) and 594 (JOAK) both // with NHK-1. Commercial Japanese can be heard on 1287 (JOHR Sapporo, HBC), 1440 (JOWF Sapporo, STV) and 1242 (JOLF Tokyo), all three are easy in the morning hours Central time. Voice of Vietnam really gets out on 675 khz. HLAZ-1566 (Religious station in several Asian languages, out of Jeju Island, South Korea) can be S9+20 at times, same with HLCA-972 (KBS). Pyongyang is often heard on 819 (KCBS) and 657 (Pyongyang Bangsong), they are NOT // to each other but air the same musical salutes to the Kim family, nationalism and military marches. Sometimes there are commentaries with angry-sounding Korean announcers. Korean can also be heard well on 1206 khz early AMs...but it's not from Korea. It's 200KW Yanbian Broadcasting, Yanbian China (near the N.K. border). Actually, the Yanbian is off frequency about 40hz, around 1205.96.
I tried for KBS-2 HLSA Seoul on 603khz last week, but all I heard was loud Chinese. Their 'Happy FM' service is often heard in the PacNW. I haven't caught them here in central WA, but have heard music fadeups when conditions are good.

"on the plus side"...1548 has one of the better signals in Central London itself. It was never a problem in my usual hotel fronting Grosvenor Square, near the American and other Embassies. Not exactly a noise-free area!
Very true cyberdad as when I was in London a few times Capital Radio (as it was called then) had a very good signal into central London. I much preferred it to BBC Radio 2.

Daytime skywave today, 12/20. CKOM-650 with ID about 15 minutes ago. 1070 had CFAX and something else (either KATQ MT or KNX CA). 1600 KGST with ESPN Deportes mixing with tentative KUBA Xmas music. 760 out of Denver, weak and all alone. 900 Country mixing with weak KKRT, probably CKBI. 1210 KRPU out of Sacramento loud with Punjabi music. KSL, KBOI, others also enhanced today. Love this time of year!

2:05PM, sunset still over 2 hours away, and I just heard CBW on 990!! CBC news mentioned Winnipeg. Distance of 1,100 miles long before dark. Absolutely impressive daytime cx. Confirmed 1600 as KUBA. KSFN-1510 all over KGA with Mandarin talk.

Good DX crainbebo. Tomorrow is the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere so here's to good DX everyone!

Gold on 1548 has a pattern that heads straight for France and that makes reception unlikely in North America. On the SDR in the Netherlands, I get a mix of Gold and Forth 2.

1548 AM is a strong London signal playing Oldies music that I have also heard on the Artic SDR. That station surprisingly gets out pretty far. I wonder if anyone has picked it up in North America?

Winter solstice is a winner for daytime DX again.
1600 KTUB UT, 1550 KMRI UT both in well (1:20PM), graveyard messes on open GY channels, 1660 KBRE CA with a nice S9 signal, etc. etc. Looking for more.
EDIT: CJRB-1220 Boissevain MB - now a daytime skywave RECORD for me, 967mi at 10KW! Religious music // stream. Now it's a weak KPJC, with MB gone. Previous record was CBK-540. While I had CBW yesterday at 2:05PM, it's barely not in that 11-2 period where the sun's at its highest peak.

On the Arctic receiver the last several nights I've noticed very limited conditions to North America. Tonight I could only hear the Pacific Northwest. Seattle--710 KIRO strong at times, 1000 KOMO fair and 820 KCBF Fairbanks was in. When I listened around 0600--0630z,those were the only NA signals I heard. Lots of UK & Spain among other Europeans dominating.

Noontime DX today:
1170 KLOK San Jose w/ South Asian programming
1200 KYAA Soquel CA 'This is Relevant Radio'
Usual high-band Sacramento stations
1430 KLO Ogden UT 'Unforgettable 1430 KLO'
1550 KMRI, 1600 KTUB both in SS, both Salt Lake City (and 1160 KSL of course)
1550 KGMZ San Francisco '95.7 the Game'
880 CHQT Edmonton AB local news, big signal
840 CFCW Camrose AB with country // stream. First time ever on that frequency. Used to be a pest on 790. NOT NEW because it's the same station.
1210 UNID Country mixing with KMIA Auburn. Either KRSV or KHAT, but not sure which one.

That is a great catch! CKWX has a monster signal and for whatever reason, 1130 is a pretty empty frequency. The aforementioned KWKH comes in from time to time here in Phoenix, but that is easily nulled by turning the radio north / south. There is a Mexican station that comes in, but a lot of times, CKWX can be heard alone on the frequency. All the nearby 1130’s are daytime only so the frequency stays pretty clear at night. One of the few remaining out there, that’s for sure!

Thanks, asugeorge1 and everyone else! I keep going back to my recording to remind myself that I really caught CKWX. It was very weak and intermittent, but it was there. Glad I now have some time off from my crazy work schedule this week so I can take more advantage of this great winter propagation.

When I can get around to posting, I have some pretty good catches, with audio recordings from here in Laramie WY. Maybe now that I have a week off from work, I'll get around to it.

Arctic receiver wide open now--0524z. 680 Alaska very good, 820 Alaska good. KOMO strong. WBBM & WSCR heard. I'm noticing at least 2 maybe 3 stations on 1130. One is KTLK--can't ID the others. Lots of British stations. WYLL on 1160 & WGRB on 1390 with XMAS music. KMOX mixing with another 1120--KPNW?

Taking a quick scan of the Arctic SDR in the midnight EST hour 12/18. 1510, "The Rock", Littleton CO re-log, KTLK in strong on 1130, KFBK on 1530. Several TalkSport transmitters echoing on 1089 with a strong 1090 het. KOMO-1000, Seattle with ABC and local news. Someone with the Joe Pags show on 970

Yes, those 1089s in the UK are strong. KBRW-680 was quite strong at times tonight. KTLK was strong tonight, but a few nights ago Vancouver was in on 1130. Also heard 660 Calgary tonight and as you reported KOMO was strong. 1540 was KXEL & something else that I couldn't ID.

After a career of some 1500+ AM stations logged from near JFK Airport, I moved to NE Pennsylvania and re-set the totals odometer list to 0000. I'm the real nosebleed/earbleed stratosphere of 300-something in the new log so far, lol.

But *blush* the most recent addition to the unimpressive NE PA list was ..... CKGM Montreal on 690.
That was just this morning, around 6:30, 12-28-18. I never actually heard them say '*CKGM*, but did hear many references to Montreal, and what I thought was 'CSN Radio', and some sports guy who had to've had just aboot the limit of the definitive Canadian accent*** allowed on the radio.
There was a 'Mitch Melnick' name and promo. A search of the CKGM home page verified that he is their guy in afternoons.

This embarrassing reception triumph was off a G-8 Grundig traveler II Digital I'd given my wife a few years ago. To my knowledge she has never used it. So I confiscated it. It really is quite better than the equally-sized Radio Shack digital 'Tune It' Travel Radio I normally use for the casual DX.

I beg the indulgence, impatience and pity of those of you who will further tolerate the DX 'milestones' of a person who had to wait until seven hours ago to log a 50,000 watt station from 350 miles off.

*** Don't hit me. I'm of 1/4 French-Canadian distraction, hi

DX is where you find it, Steve! Congrats on the new one. They get harder as you go, as you mentioned. I used a G8 briefly several years ago. Unlike the Tecsun PL-380, which it resembles, the muting/squelch level is all wrong for DXing. A little flutter on a station sounds like a machine gun. If you like compact DSP radios, the PL-380 is a go-to. I replaced the internal ferrite-rod antenna with a toroidal transformer, connected to a loop that was then tuned by the radio. Details: http://kr1s.kearman.com/html/hooploop.html With a larger transformer (more L) I was able to receive Euro and African LWBC stations, too. That was during my sojourn in So Fla. That rig didn't make the trip west.

The Alaskans were dominating the Arctic SDR tonight. KNOM, KCBF, and KBRW--strong with 70s & 80s music.
Others heard were KTLK & CKWX fighting it out on 1130, both strong. 1030, not WBZ-no ID. 1040 not WHO no ID.

Great evening of DX right now! Happy new year to all!

860 CBKF-2 Saskatoon SK, big signal with FF SRC programming. // to 690, so not wanted CBKF-1
680 CJOB Winnipeg local news over KNBR beaming east
740 KVOX Fargo like a ton of bricks here, ESPN programming // 1460
1700 KBGG Des Moines IA with CBS Sports, host ranting about a university basketball coach, // stream. Surprisingly rare, but right on top of the channel tonight with XEPE phased
1650 definite EE under KBJD, and another UNID under that too, all beaming ESE
1630 KCJJ Iowa City IA 'Stuck Like Glue' Sugarland // stream! Haven't heard this in a long time. 9:45PM PT
1510 KCKK Littleton CO over KGA with Roberta Flack // playlist, stream
1600 KIVA Albuquerque NM, Dana Loesch Show // stream, nice - 9:56PM PT
1670 WOZN Madison WI 'Madison's Sports Station, The Zone'. Loud signal. Wow...
1590 KVGB Great Bend KS mentioned 97.7 in Coast to Coast break, 1243mi
1220 CJRB Boissevain MB classical music mixing with KPJC
1210 KHAT Laramie, 'New Country 96.7'

My first ever "TOH ID Two-fer on a GY channel" Sunday morning 5am CST (1100 GMT). To explain....

I was on 1240 when two re-logs came in in rapid succession. First, KBIZ, Ottumwa, IA rose to the top with a legal ID, and quickly disappeared. Just in time for WTAX, Springfield, IL to surface with their legal ID. I heard KBIZ here for the first time earlier last month. WTAX, I've heard a handful of times. Most recent being a year or so ago. Both stations from a distance of about 200 miles.

Then the next morning at about the same time a new one for me on 1340. WSOY from Decatur, IL. Legal ID then about ten minutes of "America in the Morning" before it faded into the mush. Also about 200 miles distance from my location. Radio was the SRF-37 Walkman

Happy New Year to everyone.

Yesterday I logged a new station on 1050 - KJBN in Little Rock from 516 miles - about an hour after local sunrise. XEG in Monterrey is very dominant on the frequency, which has prevented me from hearing a whole lot else on it.

Around 8:30 a.m. I was aiming NE with my CC-2E (and Terk loop) and started hearing a weak signal with a preacher under XEG. As XEG began to fade a bit, I heard a promo for Emmanuel Covenant Community Church. This was followed by a station ID and more preaching. The signal was very intermittent and never rose above the weak level. Both it and XEG were totally gone before 9 a.m.
