I've heard ND, SD and even western NE (KNEB-960) stations at sunrise especially in late October when it's still dark at 7AM (and in Minot, home of KCJB, even at 8am their time).

I discovered a fun SDR this afternoon/evening. Saint Michel Des Saints, roghly 100 miles north of Montreal in Quebec's northwoods. Some daytime skywave in the afternoon....most notably WBZ and WBBR. Then around 9:00pm CST all the Chicago and NYC blowtorches were in, along with the usual assortment of 50kw stations from the upper midwest and northeast. WABC and WCBS were the strongest New Yorkers, while WMVP was the strongest Chicago signal. The most interesting channel of the relatively brief evening stay was 870. WHCU (1kw, directional to the northeast) from Ithica NY was on top most of the time with WWL and R. Reloj mostly underneath. Reloj getting the better of it. I also heard a couple of "old friends" that have been missing from my home location for a couple of years. CKOC from Hamilton, ON on 1150 with Monday night football, and CHOK on 1070 from Sarnia, ON (across the River from Port Huron, MI) with country music.
Thanks cyberdad I briefly checked it out. The east coast blowtorches were strong, Chicago not so much except WMVP. I'll be tuning in again.

A couple of unexpected catchwa this evening 9:30pm CST/0330 GMT on the Winnipeg SDR. WMBD, 1470 from Peoria, IL. Strong and alone for about five minutes. Long enough for a positive ID and then it disappeared. Resurfaced a few minutes later, not quite as strong and mixing with WIBD from West Bend, WI. Odies and a positive ID. 2,5kw directional basically beamed north. Earlier on that receiver, The Duluth, Minnesota stations were blasting. WEBC (560), KDAL (610), and WDSM (710). All 5kw. (WIND clearly audible under WEBC.)

For good measure, a GY catch on 1450. KATE from Albert Lea, MN just north of the Iowa state line. Distance roughly 350 miles. I've heard that one a few times at my home location on the SRF 37 Walkman. Most recently a couple of months ago.

Finally, earlier in the evening, I was on the St. Michel SDR in Quebec. No real surprises there other than the het I was hearing on 890. Last night it was really loud and trashing WLS. Tonight not so much, but I also heard it faintly tonight on the Winnipeg receiver. My best guess until if and when someone tells me otherwise is the 891 blaster from Algeria.

I heard that het on 890 too, especially last night. Tonight the Chicago blowtorches were coming in better. I even heard WVON in the background of a stronger signal on 1690.

Randomly settled on 550 AM tonight since there was a buzz on 540, heard sports, thought it would be KTRS St. Louis, and was pleased at 11:48 p.m. to get a clear ID, "WGR Buffalo," out of a commercial break going back to ESPN. Amazingly a new one for me, and AM No. 492. Seven new stations in the last four days. I should do this more often.

Nice. WGR is not that easy in the Chicago area.

That's for sure. It is the longtime radio outlet for the Buffalo Sabres, but I never picked it up in many a night of trying, with KSD (now KTRS) always horning in. Tonight, I didn't even have to swing the ol' Sony ICF-2010 to null WIND, nor go to narrow bandwidth. Now, what are the odds on getting WKRC in Cincinnati, another unheard?

Tonight, had KIQS-1560 Willows CA with Regional Mexican // to stream. Only 250 watts and 522 miles. Meanwhile, had a relatively clear ID for KJJR-880, Whitefish MT. Likely on 10,000 watt day power, mixed with KIXI and others. And at 1:00AM PT, KRKC-1490 King City CA with a TOH ID into CBS News (745 miles).

New state!
Good morning for DX in west central Georgia. Caught WDEL 1150 am in Wilmington Delaware this morning with good signal and several IDs with many Wilmington business mentions in ads. Great to add another state to the list. Surprised it broke through more frequently heard stations in Chattanooga, Tuscaloosa, and Baton Rouge.
Also heard KOA Denver CO 850 am for long periods with fading in between. This station is hard to hear in this area.
My favorite Kansas station KGGF 690 am Coffeyville KS was reporting cattle and grain prices, breaking through normal 690 stations from Birmingham, Jacksonville and New Orleans.
Winter DXing is fun.

Definite "extended critical hours" reception this morning here in the Kansas City area. Between 9:30-10:00am CST, I logged the following stations in my car: WBBM, WBAP, WCCO, KOA, WSUI, WTAD, KPSZ, WMVP, KRLD, KXEN, KSTP and KXEL. There were likely more but I ran out of time. The only first time reception was WSUI.

Nice catch with WGR. I've never heard them at my location. It's usually KTRS....even 24/7 with WIND nulled.

WGR has a good day signal all around theToronto and Niagra areas of Ontario in addition to pretty much all of Western New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio. They've also been blasting on a nightly basis on the St. Michel SDR in the Quebec northwoods.

I thought I'd try for some daytime skywave early this afternoon on both the Winnipeg and St. Michel SDRs in Canada. Not a lot going on actually. The St. Michel radio did produce listenable signals from WBZ and the NYC 1560 (ex WQEW), but that was about it.. On the Winnipeg SDR there was even less, although KFGO from Fargo, ND was strong on 790. practically nothing else. I thought I did hear something under CFRY on 920, but it was hard to make out, and may have been an image from another station. That radio is quite close to two 50kw transmitter sites....CJOB and CBW. Both of which are located just west of the city.

One "fringe benefit" from the Winnipeg SDR. I listened to CJOB for a few minutes and got to hear Dolly Parton's new song that sums up 2020 "Vacine". To the tune of her old country hit "Jolene". It's pretty hilarious....and really fits!

I've heard WKRC at night, not often, but I have heard it.

Nice catches. Great time of year for extended critical hours DXing.

I checked the St Michel Canada SDR shortly after you did. Got strong WCBS, WINS fair, WBBR fair/good, WBZ good. Probably close to turning into afternoon critical hours.

WGR 550 Buffalo is in again right now (8:45 p.m. CT) in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, an easy listen two nights in succession. Pattern change (or day still on) perhaps?

Tonight Dec 9, nothing doing on the Arctic receiver. It was dead to NA yet again. However the Haida Gwaii receiver had some good reception including WGN in the clear with a very good signal. Best I've heard yet. This was about 10:40 CST.
