Roaming through the AM band this evening in Chicago, on 540 I heard some South Asian music that didn't match the format of any 540 I had logged before. Comparing to their online stream it turned out to be WBWD in Islip, NY. They are officially 10KW by day and 220 W by night so I'm guessing they left their AM pattern going for a couple of hours after dark.

Another random comment for Chicago/W Michigan listeners... on Lake Shore Drive, the usual "nostalgia" WAKV on 980 was replaced by a classic country station. They were just bought out by "Jethro radio" so apparently the format is being switched as well.

I had some FM tropo this morning to Central Nebraska, South Central Colorado, and elsewhere. Most of them were relogs from my June 10th opening to Kansas.
There was one station that just went on and on with their ads, 105.3 KIOD. I finally got their branding.

Notable stations:
94.9 KJLT North Platte, NE (205 mi)
98.9 KKMG Pueblo, CO (165 mi)
99.7 KOGA Ogallala, NE (181 mi)
105.3 KIOD McCook (210 mi)
106.5 KMCX Ogallala, NE (162 mi)

I also recieved the likes of KTAD, KCGC, KATR and KNNG from the Sterling area.

On the AM band, KXXJ was on day power at midnight, and I got CKDM Brandon, Manitoba

I'm guessing you mean KXXX. You mightve heard me there.. im on 790 11pm to 5am central 7 days a week. For the 2 years i lvied in Laramie, WY I never caught KXXX misbehaving, but its possible I guess if power fails and wipes out the remote control memory

KXXX was also seemed stronger last night, but I actually meant 1470 KXJJ out of Fort Collins, not dropping to 40 watts at night. Hey, that's cool you work for KXXX, by the way. I'll have to catch you sometime. The station is barely readable during the day, but I've noted it at night.

CRI's transmitters in Kashgar, Xinjiang really get out when there is decent enough propagation. I've heard them before on just my G2. That, of course was in 2015 or 2016 when conditions were generally better, but I was hearing them off the back of their array, because the program was in Italian or Spanish or German (can't remember), aimed at Europe -- directly opposite of my direction. And there wasn't enough polar flutter or fast fading to indicate I was getting the signal after it passed Europe, although I suppose that could have been possible.

I forget which SW band it was, although I know it was either 31 m or 25 m.
 
First night DXing AM for the season, G2 magnetic storm supposed to come in. Nothing really interesting so far, but I did find 1460 KCNR Shasta CA (750w) under KUTI, with Ben Shapiro // stream, and a clean signal from XERF-1570 Ciudad Acuna. Maybe I'll check again later, but a lot of the same 250 stations that I usually hear night to night.

Are geomagnetic storms good or bad for medium wave DX?

Depends. They block out reception of northerly signals, but if it coincides with good southern skip it can be golden. It might get to the point that you can only hear your locals and semi-locals.

For the past couple of weeks, it's been pretty typical for late summer. Some nights decent, some lousy. The really good stuff is'nt here yet, and probably won't be for a while. Daytime skywave is almost....but not completely....impossible. At least that's my take.
