Post your latest DX

Heads up, just got word for an AM DX Test this weekend courtesy of the NRCA/CPC:

Short notice test announcement for a DX Test this Sunday, May 1st for WCGA 1100 in Woodbine, GA. They’ll be doing a two-hour long test this Saturday starting at Midnight until 2 AM Eastern Daylight Time (0400-O600 UTC)

WCGA is a true “daytimer” that normally broadcasts only during daylight hour, making reception in many areas difficult or impossible. This is a great chance for those on the West Coast, Europe, and elsewhere to log the test.

They’ll be broadcasting at full daytime power of 10,000 watts into their normal array. Not only that but owner Wesley Cox has insisted on having the station administer the QSLs directly. The station even had special cards printed up for the test.

QSL INFORMATION

WCGA is actively soliciting reports from DX’ers on their signal. They’re interested in hearing about frequency stability, audio quality, and overall performance. The station will accept both hard copy reports via USPS mail and email reports. They would love to receive audio recordings in either .WAV or.MP3 and videos in .MP4 video.

Reception reports should go to:

Wesley Cox
Owner/General Manager
News/Talk 1100 WCGA
714 Narrow Way
St. Simons Island, Georgia 31522

[email protected]

Physical QSL card senders will receive a physical QSL. Email QSLs will receive email QSL.

Best audio narrative recording and received via email in MP3 or MP4 about themselves and their passion for radio that includes their reception of WCGA and the who, what, when, where, why and how of that event taking place will receive a special prize from the station. DX’ers who submit recordings must grant permission to broadcast their recordings. The decision of WCGA staff on the winner is final.

A huge thank you to the staff of WCGA and their owner Wesley Cox for agreeing to provide notification of this maintenance test to DX’ers, and soliciting our reports.

Please cross-post and circulate news of this test widely to Facebook Groups, Twitter accounts, reflectors, etc.

73,

Les Rayburn, N1LF

Am preparing some mint juleps and hoping for a peaceful night with maybe a nice, friendly, blinding Aurora coming through the window to ensure maximum tape quality. Atlantic Coast DXers should have minimal problem, what with that exaggerated water-path megaphone.
About ten others have been alerted here as well.... folks from Long Island, Ohio, NJ, PA and even Hawaii.
Thanks for the tip!

KNZZ, KFAX and KWWN all rule the roost on 1100, but perhaps some code/sweeps can pop up. Fingers are crossed! GA is a needed state for me! I logged FL in September (WBOB-600).

Some new stations I'm hearing around 7:50 PM:
880 KJOZ Conroe, TX tropical music also heard on stream, only in for a few seconds before fading out
1050 WTWG Columbus, MS airing Keepin' it Real with Al Sharpton
1060 WKNG Tallapoosa, GA "King Country"
1190 WSDQ Dunlap, TN "Country Roads 93.3"
1250 WZOB Fort Payne, AL "It's 7:37 at WZOB"

Great catch with KJOZ.

Not much happening for me these past few days, but there was a catch this morning that I found interesting. KMRY from Cedar Rapids, Iowa was in and on top of 1450 for the better part of the hour between 5 and 6am CDT. Usually GY channel stations come and go, but this was pretty much constant, save for a few fades. TOH ID, CBS News and Classic Rock. Not a new catch, I've heard it at my home location a few times. Bur the duration this morning had to have been some sort of record for me. Distance 173 miles on the C. Crane Skywave.

Getting ready for tonight even know I might not get the Test cause I'm in KLIB area in Carmicheal

I heard Music on 1110 KLIB, I though it was something else, KLIB has no website, No Stream

They played Britney Spears like 20 mins ago, There's no close SDR I can fine

KFAX 1100 is VERY loud tonight. Trying to hear anything close to the test but it won't be easy.
Slow morse code being heard on the Edinburgh, IN SDR.

DFW, Texas Sangean ATS-909X

I’m hearing 1100-WCGA DX Test weakly under WTAM with radio aimed E/W. National Anthem at 11:00pm CDT, followed by CW. Now have tone and sweeps at 11:08pm. Weak but steady.

I think I have weak code here!!! KFAX finally went to a Medishare commercial (855-51-BIBLE) and the tiny breaks allowed me to hear what sounded like bits of 1khz morse code.
Recorded and will send to the CPC to see if I was just imagining it in the headphones...

Was listening on the Athens, GA SDR and it was fighting with WTAM. Turned on my YB400, inside the house, without antenna extended and WCGA was booming like a local. Loganville, GA 235 miles.

I think I just heard a sweep tone at 9:20 but KFAX went back to Christian Contemporary music and it is crisp and loud. Ever closer to confirming GA #1. Would be over 2,300 miles.

EDIT More sweeps 9:23, probably 5-6 in a row, and // Edinburgh IN SDR. That's it...it's over! NEW #816, 10KW at 2,320 miles!

EDIT again - I am using a local SDR in Kittitas WA if anyone is wondering. Not on Kiwi. CWU noise level is terrible, this SDR is 6 miles away and I count all my catches with this receiver...
