I’m going to guess Louisiana was WWL & Minnesota was WCCO

Yes, one was WWL.. it was so loud, and clear.. had i not heard the Legal ID during westwood one football network play by play, id have readily assumed it was KFLD in WA

THe MN station was KSTP

Tuning across the dial Sunday night between 6 and 830pm AK Time, I had some spanish on 1060khz but I assumed it was KTNS Oakhurst/Fresno, CA because I heard that SAturday night.. plus the signal wasnt as good sunday night, so I passed it on by.

Well, it came back up a bit and I decided to stay tuned in. This gringo failed 7th grade spanish so bad I dropped out after a week and never took spanish again, even in high school... so I don't understand much at all, but....

I did catch a "La Raza" slogan mention, which would've likely been enough to figure out who this was, but then I heard what even I could clearly ID was an X Call letter being given.. and then heard "watts potencia", which is the station id that's so long, I joke that mexican stations ID everything including the location of the stations kitchen sink.

Which makes this XERDO Matamoros, Tamaulipas. near Brownsville TX

FRi 1/5

1290 KGVO Missoula, MT 606pm AK with weather forecast. Quickly lost to 1290s from San Jose and Chico.

1180 KOFI Kalispell, MT with Rich Valdez Show at 621pm AK

Sat 1/6
910 KNEW San Francisco with several Black Information Network mentions, 540pm AK. Pretty well on top for a bit

1510 KGA Spokane with sports talk at 552pm AK

1290 KGVO with local commercial at 557pm AK

1270 KVMI Tulare, CA with My 97.5 liner, pretty good signal for a minute or two at 614pm AK

1360 KOHU Hermiston, OR with classic country including Kenny Rogers at 618pm AK, with KKMO broadcasting dead air.

Sun 1/7
1200 WOAI San Antonio with legal ID at 559pm AK. Pretty good signal!

1540 KXEL Waterloo, IA screaming in

1080 KRLD Dallas "And Im Bob Delgiorno, 1080 KRLD news" after traffic and weather report, 606pm AK

1620 Rebelde Cuba hjeard spanish music that sounded somewhat obviously like what Cuba normally broadcasts and this is the only spanish 1620 in this neck of the world, 624pm AK Time.

1560 KGOW Bellaire, TX way over top of KNZR Bakersfield, CA for several mintues with Vietnamese talk. Even a casual vietnamese speaker would've understood what was being said, 652pm AK Tikme

870 WWL New Orleans. This was soooo clear and strong I was ready to pass this off as KFLD in Washinghton State, also a news talker with Westwood One Network Sunday night NFL. But Murphy didnt work against me.. I got a loud and clear WWL Station ID along with the Cuban Wobbler plainly obvious under it. 659pm AK

XERDO 1060 Matamoros, Tamaulipas, near Brownsville TX. 7pm I almost passed this up thinking it was KTNS Fresno, CA that I heard just the day before. I don't speak any spanish and understand only the very basics, but I heard "La Raza" mentioned in the way a slogan would be mentioned then what was clearly an X Call letter being mentioend and the typical mexico station id thats so long, I joe the station ID's everything including the location of the kitchen sink. Heard again even better nearly 53 minutes later with a man talking.

KSTP 1500 St Paul, MN heard with Good signal and local ads at 716pm and mention of "Skor north".

KRRZ 1390 Minot, ND at 719pm. Usually heard is KLOC Turlock, CA or KLTX Los Angeles but the dead giveaway this was a d eep midwestern state was the weather forecast with a current temp of 7 degrees! Kinda weak and soon lost.

KLGN 1390 Logan, UT 725pm AK with mention of FM Frequency 106 point something and 1390, "The Fan". The only other sports station on 1390 is in WA and has a translator on 104 something.

950 KCAP Helena, MT with mentions of News Radio 95", a full power FM and the AM frequency. 732pm AK with decent signal.

1040 WHO Des Moines, IA screaming in for the moment.

1110 KRPA oak Harbor, WA overpowering local KAGV Houston with punjabi music at 755pm.

580 CHAH Vancouver, BC heard with south asian punjbai music, only station on this frequency in north america with this format.

Radio Reloj 950khz, 811pm. Heard with several time pips, akin to WWV/H, but for the moment thats all I heard from Cuba on 950 under a jumble of 3 other stations on 950. I may have heard some bits of spanish words, but I know I clearly heard time pips.

How do 1610 and 1710 sound up there?

I'm wondering if you could receive my faint 100 mW whisper from California. You seem more than able to get virtually everything else!

XEW 900 Mexico City heard at 612pm AK Jan 8th 4000 miles away with man talking, sounded like a long form interview of some kind. Signal held out for 10 minutes!

The only other sports station on 1390 (in WA) has been silent for months. They (KBBO) are solely on 104.5 FM via KHHK-HD2, 3 or 4...one of those. It's comical when the 'high school game of the week' is held in Sunnyside or Grandview. 104.5 is ALL Spanish out there via KZJJ Mesa. No sign of the Sports translator.

KZNS 1280 Salt Lake City made it to west central Alaska Monday January 8th at 801pm Mountain with several very clear mentions of the Utah Jazz!

I got lucky because normally what I hear on 1280 is KWSX Stockton, CA which is also sports and had I not heard the local mentions, I would've assumed it was KWSX and not KZNS.

And before anyone asks, KSL is easy pickins up here, just about daily.

KSL comes in loud and clear most nights here too. So well, in fact, that the HD sidebands are often interfering with KLOK 1170 and whatever's on 1150 (I initially dismissed the often bad sounding signal of 1170 at my location as just weak reception, but I realized that it was actually IBOC hash I was hearing, and 1170 otherwise does come in relatively well, particularly during the day when the skywaves from Utah fade away).

Tue Jan 9th

1390 KLGN Logan, UT heard with very clear mentions of 1390, 106.9 and Northern Utah at 816pm AK Time

1250 KZDC San Antonio, TX with legal ID right about 8pm AK Time and signal got even stronger and very listenable during the network sports programming

XERDO 1060 near Brownsville, TX at good strength with music and La Raza slogan.

900 XEW Mexico City with spanish language talk between man and woman, discussing musical artists Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons and James Blake

KVNI 1080 Coeur D'alene, Idaho with classic hits music

9410 kHz, 0311 UTC, BBC in Pashto to Afghanistan, from Oman. On my DX-390 and XHDATA D-328 and an indoor wire. They went overtime, cutting off around 0340 UTC. The language sounded like a South Asian language, but it could have been another language from the region. Being that the BBC was the only thing listed at that freq and time slot, that's as good as I can figure for an ID.

The signal came in better on the little, $15 XHDATA, which is a little marvel for listening to SW, especially once you clip on a 10-20 ft wire. DSP has come a long way in small packages.

The rest of the Shortwave spectrum was mostly static, with bits and pieces of audio here and there, aside from WRMI on 9455 which was around S4 in signal strengths.

PS as I've mentioned upthread I'm in the Seattle-Tacoma metro.

Last night around midnight, I was getting some powerful EMI that jammed most of the band. Only a handful of strong locals could break through it.

I think it might be either someone's broken appliance somewhere nearby, or faulty equipment on the power lines outside.

However, It's intermittent, so I haven't put in much effort to figure it out because it hasn't been much of a problem. It's still bothersome when it does happen, though, and it would be nice to know what, exactly, is causing it.

Nice going Mario. I don't recall getting KIT-1280 on my trip to Montana last year. A weak KZNS Salt Lake on 670 watts and KQLL in NV made it in.

I was tuning through the FM band today, because AM is pretty boring this time of day (12:30 PM Pacific), and I heard some older music I usually don't hear, and decided to listen for awhile.

I caught a sung (!) ID shortly after 1: it was KSVY from Sonoma.

I'm not sure if this particular signal usually comes this far, although with 790 watts at a HAAT of 620 feet, I guess it's not impossible.

Do you ever hear any Europeans on MW up there in AK land?

"Doble Uve Radio" 900 Mexico City heard at 824pm AK Sat Jan 13th with Capital Cities tune "Safe & Sound" loud and clear for a minute or two. Several other good, loud fade ups before and after this song from 4000 miles away. XEW is *almost* reaching the level of "pest" here.
