Post your latest DX

2/8 21:10 CST 1220 KC WSLM Salem, IN
(Southern IN, northwest of Louisville, KY) Weak/fair 82 watts. Country/news/sports.
Also heard a rock format station, weak copy.
All new dx.

Yesterday, Feb. 8, at 6:54 CT I logged a new station on 1410 - KOOQ in North Platte, NE. I heard two “FM 98.1 / 1410 AM” IDs followed by Bruce Springsteen’s “Glory Days.”

The song matched KOOQ’s webstream, and the ID matched the station’s branding.

The signal was weak and mixing with KGSO in Wichita, and it was only in for a couple of minutes. Distance was 810 miles, and KOOQ was presumably on 5 kW day power.

That North Platte catch is quite a catch.

Last night, picked up WJXL 1010 sports from Jacksonville Beach, FL, here in the Austin, Texas, area.

Thought it was a first catch for me, but looking at my spreadsheet, I've gotten it before.

Odd because KBBW, a Christian teaching station from Waco, usually comes in at an average level at night, but hasn't been so great lately.

When KLAT Houston started signing off at sunset a few months ago I was surprised at how easily I could hear WJXL. They're supposedly directional away from me, out into the Atlantic. KBBW is always there as well, but it does seem they've been weaker lately. KBBW appears to have a null in my direction.

WJXL came in very strong pre-dawn this a.m.
Was hoping it was WINS New York, but that would be asking too much.
Last night, driving in the area immediately west of Waco-Temple, Texas, in the Meridian-Crawford-McGregor-Moody-Temple area along highways 6 and 317, was surprised at how weak KBBW 1010's nighttime signal was.
Very muddy and could hear a Mexican underneath.

2/9 21:30 CST 700 KC
Was listening to the Superbowl on WLW.
Propagation shifted for several seconds, and couldn't hear them. Did hear some music, which I'm assuming was another station, not " filler" music. Don't know what it was, but usually don't hear anything besides WLW.
Antenna was north/south. Copy weak/fair.

As there are only 2 AMs on 700 outside of the Rocky Mountain west and West Coast, the station could've been Dallas or Houston.

station XEETCH-AM 5,000 watts daytime?

2/10 22:54 CST 1230 KC heard " Dancing in the moonlight " by King Harvest for just a second. Most likely WCMC Wildwood, NJ. 1kw
I've gotten a positive id on them in the past from here, so it probably is. Especially because haven't heard any other oldies station on this frequency. Sometimes I get what sounds like a sports station, but can't get any id. Usually just nothing much due to too weak stations on 1230.

950 KC WAKM Franklin, TN country 75 watts weak/fair at times. Also heard another station, not able to id. Sounded like a music format.

Listening on the local Ukiah (~30 miles from my location) KiwiSDR tonight, I've found some interesting things:
  • On 820 AM, I briefly heard a commercial with a 972 number. 972 is one of the area codes for the Dallas/Fort Worth area, so I'm very certain that it's WBAP.
  • And on 1240 AM, I've so far heard at least three stations clearly enough to ID:
    • KMBY Monterey, CA (confirmed by Internet stream and very distinctive vintage TOH jingle)
    • KJOP Lemoore, CA (heard Relevant Radio reference)
    • KRDM Redmond, OR (I think; I heard Spanish language music briefly)
    • There's also some news-like stuff bubbling up.
More to follow....

I was scanning and stopped at 1430. For a second, I heard "Love is Strange" bubble up under what sound like some sort of Asian music (most likely candidate is KVVN Santa Clara, CA) and some sort of sports talk, and now I think I hear the Chiffons. Anyone know what this station is?

The only station I can find that's playing this sort of music is a station out in Arkansas? How can that be?

I'm not finding anything so far that's more local. Maybe if I keep listening I'll get lucky and hear an ID.

c

OK, I figured out where the sports talk is coming from. It's KFIG Fresno.

Still can't figure out where the oldies came from. I guess it'll remain a mystery for now.

I doubt it. They sign off at sunset supposedly, this was around the time the Superbowl was ending. It was most likely one of the two Texas stations, Dallas or Houston area.
Most if not all Mexican daytimers sign off at 7 PM local time. They don't have different sunset times each month of the year.

Some of the reasoning has to do with different attitudes in Mexico when the treaties were signed, and some has to do with the fact that the closer you get to the equator, the less difference in sunrise and sunset times there is through the year. For example, when I owned a cluster of stations in Quito, Ecuador... a short drive south of the Equator... sunrise and sunset were within minutes of difference all year long.

I have heard KJAY Sacramento air oldies before (during auroral conditions).

2/15 107.1 (no not another) "KISS-FM"
I believe I heard the weak WGMY Thomasville, GA (Tallahassee area) 100kw, 823 ft. There are a few 100 kW blowtorches from AL and GA that can be heard here at times. Did ID WKMX 106.7 Enterprise, AL (Dothan area). 100 kw 1070 ft.
