What's wrong with Alec Baldwin? He's a great host. For that show.

I forgot about Alec Baldwin. I always do whatever it takes to forget about Alec Baldwin. Gene Rayburn was irreplaceable.

I have a feeling Ken Jennings will be pitched by Sony soon to take over. Or someone in the news industry. An evening news anchor, like David Muir (if he has time)? Wolf Blitzer?
Really big shoes to fill no matter what. What's going to be interesting is possibly hearing Johnny Gilbert introduce a new host before he himself passes on.

They've been testing Ken as a quasi co-host. He may be really good as a contestant, but his complete lack of charisma is a deal-breaker.

My guess is Sony will finish up the season, mostly what's in the can or post with Alex as host, then will do best-of for the entirety of next season. That should give them plenty of time to focus-group-test some actual long-term-potential replacement hosts.

Would agree on that point.

"Best-ofs" for the remainder of this season might work, but not for the next season (assuming you mean 2021-22) as well. Could see individual stations (or station groups)getting nervous and send Jeopardy reruns to overnights or possibly cancel the show.

Not for "Match Game". Baldwin is great because he's as naughty as the celebrities. On this G-rated show, no. Although somehow Drew Carey manages to do it.

I don’t believe for a moment it will be a full season and a half of encores. The franchise is too valuable. And frankly I don’t think that would be in keeping with Alex’s wishes. Even if someone is an interim host (and I’m dubious on that), waiting that long for new content would too greatly damage the program.

That's like telling KOMO to get ready for a 7PM newscast (and KABC, WABC, KGO, etc etc.) They will just move Wheel to 7:30 (if the affiliate has it on at 7:00) and J! reruns to late nights. Someone will fill in (Ken? a news person?) until the end of the season and then either become the permanent new host or they will find a new host beginning September 2021.

Following Alex Trebek’s death on Sunday at age 80, George Stephanopoulos’ rep is lobbying for the ABC News anchor to become the next host of the hit game show “Jeopardy!,” a highly placed person with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

Stephanopoulos’s agent Alan Berger did not respond to TheWrap’s request for comment, but a knowledgeable individual close to the “Good Morning America” co-host denied that he was “actively” pursuing the role. However, the highly placed person told TheWrap that Stephanopoulos has his eye on the lucrative position and that his agent was lobbying hard at ABC, where he serves as ABC News’ chief anchor and political correspondent.

George Stephanopoulos is a rumored candidate for Jeopardy.

Louie Anderson, Richard Karn, and John O'Hurley (And for a short period Al Roker) are all still alive, but none of them would be right for Jeopardy.

To be honest I can't think of any hosts of any recent game shows that would be a good fit for Jeopardy, because most were comedians, which would apply for past Family Feud hosts as well.

Rest in peace Alex.

Don't forget Steve Harvey. He would be a horrible fit though.

Hosting Family Feud is a deal breaker! Not sure what I think of the idea of George Stephanopoulos except he would be a far better fit than Steve Harvey.

The best-of numbers for Jeopardy when the pandemic started were equal-to, or better than in-season, first-run's. The flashback episodes averaged 29% higher in top 25 markets than shows with run of the mill contestants.

They have so many 'I remember that episode'(s) in the archives, that they could run two or more seasons of best-of, and not risk losing any viewers. That, and regulars know about Alex's situation. Sony doesn't dare rush a host decision at the risk of turning the cash cow into New Coke.

Sony will not announce a new host until they start filming the fall season. They will run out the clock on the current season.

They need someone who has charisma and is also intelligent. Steve Harvey is the opposite of intelligent. He's just got a REALLY good agent.

Great on Feud, but would be horrible with Jeopardy! Albeit, he did fill in for a few days on Millionaire when Meredith Vieira was hosting. This was before he ever got a call for a Feud audition...John O'Hurley was still hosting.

A stopgap measure can’t be extrapolated to a full season and a half. The circumstances are different for multiple reasons. Anyone at Sony advocating for that approach shouldn’t be in their job. Nostalgia and sentimentality only goes so far. And roughly 22 months is far too much.
