Potential Cuts at Bustos

I have it from several reliable sources that Bustos may be on the verge of some big changes. Rumor has it that it might be either selling or jettisoning off some of its radio networks and stations. An announcement could come in the next 3 weeks. This would seem to be plausible based lower revenues due to the continued economic crisis and seems to correspond with remarks made last week on Capitol Hill about royalties by CEO Amador Bustos. Also, it should be interesting to see if the network re-ups with Chucho "El Perron", morning host for the La Gran "D." I understand his contract is up in a couple of months.

I have also heard about an imminent shake up at Bustos, although my sources are disgruntled former employees, so they might not be as reliable. It will be interesting to see what Amador and John have in mind, and it case La Gran D blows up, what will happen to all the affiliates out there that rely on them as their primary source of Spanish-language programming.

I've heard good things about their new pop effort in Sacramento (Mega 97.9), and there were rumors about syndicating Ke Buena to non-Bustos stations. Perhaps they should concentrate on improving the programming of Mega and Ke Buena and putting those two formats on the bird instead of the tired old "Gran D".

If they plan any sort of improvement at La Gran D, I think Chucho El Perron should be shown the door. He is as hip and interesting as Humberto Luna was on La Preciosa.
